Don't mind the fact that I fell behind on @jilymicrofics November 2024: Family Dynamic micros! I will get this months prompt list finished even if that's the last fics I write and spam you all with!
Prompt: Motivate
"All right, love are you ready to go for a fly?" Lily glanced at her son, he had all the protective gear on that was necessary for a practice game of Quidditch. And by necessary- it was far too much, but she wasn't going to take any risks tonight, she knew her son.
Harry isn't the nervous type, in reality he was a very stubborn boy, he got that from James of course, she wasn't stubborn at all.
"Mum, I don't need all of this," Harry complained and was about to take off his helmet.
She was about to argue that he indeed needed to wear that because last night they had visited the Burrow. She had watched the moment her son was too distracted by Ginny, whom of which he claimed she was just a 'friend'.
Yeah, right, she was born at night, but it wasn't last night.
Harry ended up getting hit and knocked down from his broom a few times.
I suppose what they say is right, 'like father like son', she remembered when James had gotten knocked off his broom during a match against her house, Slytherin. It was one of the reasons the Slytherin Quidditch team won the Cup, and of course she had used that as an advantage to win the game. She did check on him afterwards of course, what kind of girlfriend would she have been if she didn't check on her boyfriend after beating him in a game of Quidditch-
"I wouldn't argue with your mum on this, Harry." James broke her from her thoughts, "Keep the helmet on, maybe it will motivate you to not fall from the broom in case a certain Weasley girl is playing.'
"Oi! I didn't fall off the broom because of Ginny,' Harry spoke quickly, just as quick as his face was becoming flushed, "The sun was in my eyes and I lost balance, besides my glasses were fogging up and I couldn't see where I was bloody going. Ginny just so happened to be in my line of vision and it would be rather rude of me not to look at her. Not that I was looking at her! She's my best friends little sister-."
Lily bit her lip and tried not to laugh at the lamest excuse her son had ever came up with and test she couldn't help herself trying to rile up her son, "Ah, yes. So does that mean you see Ginny as your sister?"
Harry looked like he was going to be sick, "No! She's just special to me and she's been my friend for a long time and-"
"Of course, son. We believe you." James chuckled as they began walking towards the Quidditch stadium.
And his eyes snapped to the red-haired boy beside Harry, to the small, twitching form clutched in unknowing hands.
The rat.
Peter.
A surge of contempt roiled within him, sharp and sickening, tainting the air with its bitterness.
Filth.
Filth.
Murderous filth.
That was all Peter was—no man, no friend.
He was a slithering thing that had betrayed the people he called family, condemned them to death, and slunk away to live as a child’s pet.
A filthy, snivelling parasite nestled into the hands of the innocent.
He didn’t even deserve the word coward; that was too noble a title for a thing like Peter, a thing that wore the guise of manhood only to betray it at every turn.
So, this is a drabble from my fic which is centered around my oc Evangeline "Evie" Potter. She is Harry Potter's younger sister by one year. I haven't actually started writing it but I wrote this part on a whim because I have been thinking about it a lot lol. So, in this fic the Scamander family would play a major role in the story. So, my fic "Something Wild (Calls You Home)" which covers the years of Newt after this expulsion, will be the background for Newt here. Nigel Scamander is Newt's grandfather, and Annalise, Rolf and Lysander are Newt and Tina's grandchildren and Ria which is short for Wisteria who is Newt and Tina's daughter. This drabble is Molly Weasley critical and Sirius Black defense but only in one sentence at the end, so if you don't like these things then please don't ruin your day by reading it. This drabble takes place during Order of the Pheonix. Enjoy!
Newt thought back to his own childhood house that was now occupied by Ria and her little family. Now covered with children’s drawings and pictures of the little ones growing into themselves. Sweet Annalise with her confident smile, shy Rolf with his nervous grin, little Lysander being distracted by something that’s not the camera. The house was a home now, and full of life.
It wasn’t like that when he was growing up. The walls were blue that almost seemed grey and the people in the pictures were stoic, or respectful if you asked Nigel Scamander. There was no life inside that house, only coldness. His parents distant, his grandfather demanding, his brother —. His room inside and the forest outside was his only safe haven.
Newt was a sad child but he grew into a confident adult. That house was nothing but reminiscent of his mother's alcoholism, his father's harshness and his grandfather's control. When he was thrown out at only 17, he knew he never wanted to go back there. He did go back to Dartmoor several times but hardly to that house.
He wondered if he was locked in that house again. Not the home Ria had created but the cold house with reminders of his traumatic past etched in every corner. With the same blue-grey walls, with the same stench of wine. With someone from his childhood whispering the things they used to say of him, with not a single ally, in fact everyone treating him as a delinquent for things no fault of his own. Newt would be a hundred in two years and still the thought filled him with dread, being locked in that house.
This time Theseus wouldn't be there to make it a little bearable. Oh, how he missed his brother. When they were little they were distant, there was resentment between them which was just the consequence of people pitting them against each other. In fact, Theseus was the person Newt loved the most from his childhood.
No, Newt realised, I wouldn't be able to survive it. And especially not after going through what Sirius had gone through in the recent years. That is why he felt anger whenever Molly disrespected Sirius like that. Sirius Black deserved compassion and understanding.
Harry's reaction to the Mirror of Erised always breaks my heart. He is just eleven and he has never, never even seen his parents. I hate the Dursleys so much. Like he looks hungrily at the mirror, he is so engrossed that only a distant sound breaks him out of it. And the next morning when he is telling Ron at breakfast he isn't eating anything because he has lost his appetite. He doesn't care about what Fluffy is guarding or why does it even matter if Snape steals it. All that matters is that he gets to see his family again because this little boy is so starved of it 😭. I think this is one of the reasons these books are popular even among the adults because some of the characters feel real.

Lol I was just about to send you an ask about The Secret History but the other anon beat me to it. On the subject of reading, what sort of books do you think Sirius would have enjoyed? Love your writing, by the way.
Thank you so much for the compliment. Also, I’m always up for talking about books 😊
Ooh ok, I have given this loads and loads of thought- to the point where I’ve imagined his bookshelf.
It takes up an entire wall of his flat and is stacked to capacity.
For muggle books
There’s an entire shelf about motorcycles- books about the history of motorcycles , engine manuals, the Physics behind them, photography books of various models and maps of famous driving routes.
There’s a shelf of mystery novels and crossword books- his guilty pleasure because he loves solving things.
A shelf of character study novels- he enjoys reading people and this appeals to that side of him.
History books- he’s politically astute and has the tea on everybody and imo that’s grounded in a love for history.
Existential Philosophy books- So in character for him to question our purpose/ what this all means.
A folio of his sketches and a book of his terrible angsty/angry poetry- he has a creative side and boundless energy so he’s tried many hobbies.
Cookbooks- I just HC him as tyrannical, but excellent cook. He learned out of necessity and rebellion (his mother’s horror that a Black should cook for themselves) and ended up really enjoying it.
For magic books
Obscure branches of complex magic, advanced defence magic, advanced offensive magic (he has a dark side). Loads of transfiguration books and history books.
@jilytoberfest 31 Prompts: Day 14 || 330 Words || Read on Ao3 —
14 August 1996
“A few more balloons over there, Lil.”
Lily conjures a few more and sends them to the corner of the room before stepping back next to her husband to survey their work. Gold and red balloons line the living room of their Godric’s Hollow cottage, the words ‘CONGRATULATIONS CAPTAIN’ illuminated and suspended above them, and a small cake with chocolate golden snitch flapping atop it sits on the table.
James lets out a sound of approval. “It looks good.”
Raising on her toes, she leans over and places a kiss on his cheek. “He’s going to love it. What time did Sirius say they’ll be back?”
James checks his watch and casts a glance to the door. “Any minute now. Got his school supplies this morning and then met with Ron and Hermione for lunch. I’d imagine—”
The sound of the fireplace roaring to life cuts him off and the two turn to greet the new arrivals. A shock of orange hair is the first to appear, and Lily steps forward to pull Ron to stand next to her and James, holding a finger to her mouth to urge his silence. When Hermione appears, she does the same thing, so the four of them are facing the grate when Harry appears next, blinking in surprise when met with the chorus of “Surprise!”
Dazedly, he steps out of the grate, his parents coming to hug him on either side as Sirius rounds out the arriving party.
Lily kisses him on the head, smoothing down his hair. “Congratulations, Harry, we’re so proud of you.”
“Second generation Gryffindor captain!” James cheers, high-fiving Ron.
“This is…” Harry beams, shaking his head in disbelief. “Thank you both.”
Sirius clears his throat behind them and Harry cranes his neck. “You, too, Sirius.”
“Look at this snitch!” Hermione gasps from near the cake, and Harry breaks away from his parents to take a look, the adults silently congratulating one another on a surprise well-executed.

HARRY POTTER AND THE SORCERER'S STONE (2001) dir. Chris Columbus
I think we all sometimes need to remember that Sirius spent his time in azkaban surrounded by literal depression demons and he did not have a good time there.
Lmao my favorite thing I hear Remus apologists say is "Well Sirius didn't break out of Azkaban until Harry was 13, so he clearly didn't care about Harry, how dare you call Remus out for not checking up on Harry in all that time! What Sirius did was just as bad, if not worse!" Classic.
Sirius Black to Harry in PoA:
“Harry ... I as good as killed them,” he croaked. “I persuaded Lily and James to change to Peter at the last moment, persuaded them to use him as Secret- Keeper instead of me. ... I’m to blame, I know it. ... I set out for your parents’ house straight away. And when I saw their house, destroyed, and their bodies ... I realized what Peter must’ve done ... what I’d done. ...”
In the book:
“You killed my parents,” said Harry, his voice shaking slightly but his wand quite steady.
Black stared up at him out of those sunken eyes.
“I don’t deny it,” he said very quietly. “But if you knew the whole story.”
In other words:
Sirius blames himself for James and Lily’s deaths, even though he knows he wasn’t the traitor. That’s why he doesn’t try to escape Azkaban for the first 12 years - he believes he DESERVED TO BE THERE. He believes that he does not deserve to look after Harry, after all, he’s the reason they’re dead!
Knowing he wasn’t the traitor (even if he deserved punishment for his direct role in causing their deaths) and being able to turn into Padfoot kept him sane in Azkaban. It is only when he looks at the newspaper and sees Peter Pettigrew staring back at him as Wormy - with his missing finger - that he realises that Peter is in Hogwarts, and Harry is in danger.
Up until then, nobody, not a single prisoner, had ever escaped Azkaban without help. Yet within a short while of Sirius finding out Harry is in danger, he managed not only to come up with an escape plan, but to execute it - with no help - flawlessly.
And then - he does everything in his power to help and protect Harry, not only risking his life (and ultimately loosing it) but also risking a fate worse then death - the dementors’ kiss - in doing so. And, he offers Harry a home and a promise that they’ll be “a proper family when this is over”…
I do think Remus has reasons (aka stupid “too poor, too dangerous” type shite, some of which is actually very important) for not seeing Harry or trying to help, but compared to Sirius his excuses aren’t half as good (again, canon Remus : it makes sense from his flawed pov?)
Adding an important note:
When Sirius arrives at Godric’s Hollow and finds his best friend/brother and sister-in-law dead, his first thought was that he wanted to look after Harry, and because that’s what Lily and James wanted:
After realising Peter Pettigrew's betrayal, Sirius Black came to the cottage. He offered to take Harry, but Hagrid refused on Dumbledore's orders. Sirius then lent Hagrid his motorbike and went off to seek revenge on Peter.[Harry Potter Wiki]
So no, his first instinct wasn’t to rush off to murder Peter, his first instinct was to look after Harry. It is only when Hagrid refuses, and he knows he’ll only be able to take Harry by duelling him (which is too dangerous anyway, as Hagrid is holding the baby) that he goes after Peter.
(His second instinct is also not murdering Peter - he rushes off to confront Peter - he wants answers, desperately, to know why he betrayed his friends! Peter puts on an act, sobbing loudly about his tragically murdered friends and
“Then before I could curse him, he blew apart the street with the wand behind his back, killed everyone within twenty feet of himself — and sped down into the sewer with the other rats . . .”
He doesn’t even say WHAT curse he was going to use. Anyway, point being he was still in complete shock and didn’t really think through what he was doing)
