What do you think of 'Paddy' as a nickname for Padfoot? I know Padfoot is already a nn but it's long and seems more like a code name than an actual nn people would use to address someone in conversation, and it just doesn't really roll of the tongue (that's just me, I know it's canon that they actually called him Padfoot out loud as per SWM). But I like the idea of them nickname-ifying their nns even further like Wormtail becomes Wormy (which is somewhat canon and hilarious). I'm not a native speaker though so I obsessively google everything to make sure nothing sounds weird or out of place and I had to do that here, too, which resulted in me finding out that Paddy is not only a nn for Patrick (which is not a problem) but it's apparently also a slur for a person of Irish descent? Umm... The other popular alternative would be 'Pads' but that reminds me of menstrual products so no thanks haha. Do you have any suggestions? As a non-British person I'm wondering if Paddy is okay or is it completely tone-deaf?
So I can’t definitively say that Paddy isn’t a slur everywhere , but I’ve never heard it used as such. Normally it’s just a shortened version of Patrick. If anyone wants to chime in?
I enjoy playing with the name Snuffles as it’s so cutsey and such a contrast to how both Sirius and Padfoot present themselves.
@artemisia-black 100% agree:
*Sirius - I’m so cool I own a massive motorbike and my animagus form is a huge scary dog that looks like the death omen - Black walking down the Charms corridor in Hogwarts wearing aviator style sunglasses*
Everyone: *fanning themselves*
The Marauders: Ayo, mate, what’s up, Snuffles?
