Day 2: Solitude and Despair

There was a well-hidden alcove halfway down the farthest corridor on the third floor. Most people had no idea it was there. He did, naturally, thanks to his newfound interest in cartography. Certainly, there were not many secrets held within Hogwarts’ walls that Sirius was not privy to, and so when he needed a secluded spot to lie low for a few minutes, his feet carried him to the alcove with little conscious thought.

But he had not anticipated finding Lily Evans already occupying it.

“Shit,” he said as the false wall slipped closed behind him; when she looked up, face shiny under the faint light of a flickering torch, another, “Shit,” came out.

 "Sirius!" Lily gasped. Sirius Black was lying face-down on the floor next to an old-fashioned gramophone. Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here album was playing on a low volume. "Er, Sirius? You alright?" Sirius, not even bothering to look at her, responded. "Everything sucks, and I'm dying." "Uh," Lily rolled her eyes. "You are such a drama queen." She laid down next to him and joined him on the floor. "Can't you just let me wallow?"

“I told you, Evans,” said Sirius Black, looking far too pleased with himself as she shoved a piece of Cauldron Cake - in clear defiance of that other Evans-soon-to-be-Dursley sister who would gasp at her audacity - into her mouth, “you’ve got a friend in me. Come rain, come shine, I’m your wizard.” She rolled her eyes, her mouth too full still to properly reply. Black, however, was happy to oblige where she wouldn’t: “I know, I know… kindly fuck off, Black.” She swallowed, shaking her head. “Actually, I’m far more inclined to say kindly fuck off, Petunia today.”

Thank you all for the lovely feedback on my first Jily! I'm really excited to work on some more things down the line. I am participating in BlackEvans BFF event next week so will share a snippet now 😊

They were quiet. Sirius studied Harry. “Maybe he’ll eventually look like you. He’s still rather scrunched up. Looks a bit like a mandrake.”

“Sounds like one too,” she said, grateful when his face relaxed and he shot her his trademark grin. 

“He’s already peed on James,” she added, wanting to stay in the present. 

Sirius barked out a laugh that caused Harry to jerk his arm upwards. He held onto Harry’s hand, glancing down with mirth at the infant. 

“A proper Marauder already,” he said with confidence. “He’ll wreak havoc on Hogwarts in no time.”
