20. “I’m going to make you scream my name”

“We are the Champions, We are the Champions!!”

The not-so-sweet sounds of James and Sirius rang through the common room where the victory party was still in full swing. Gryffindor had won the Quidditch match earlier in the day and this put them in the final against Ravenclaw a week later. With Sirius as beater and James as captain and star chaser, they were feeling very optimistic about their chances.

Both boys were standing on a table, arms slung over each others’ shoulders, and swaying in time to the Queen album playing on the charmed player. Everyone was fairly drunk but even Lily didn’t want to be a killjoy on this occasion. With the threat of war hanging heavy over the group, they were determined  to get the most out of their last few months as Hogwarts students.

The song ended and both boys added “of Hogwaaaarrrrttss!” on to the end and simultaneously fell off the table from laughing. Remus and Lily shared a look that said “our boyfriends are adorable idiots” and headed over to help them up. James allowed Lily to pull him up and then refused to let go of her hand. Sirius was less helpful and pulled Remus down for a kiss, leaving him sprawled on the floor with red cheeks.

The party ended an hour later after a very drunk James tried to change the fire to a more romantic colour and managed to set the sofa on fire (with beautifully pink flames). Lily had decided to call a halt to the festivities and ordered everyone to bed.

A week later and the 7th year boys’ dorm was buzzing with excitement. James had woken everyone at 5am to worry about the upcoming game and discuss strategy. He had been hexed several times by a tired and extremely irritated Remus, but this hadn’t stopped him from bouncing around the room like a monkey on a pogo stick.

When James had disappeared to take a shower, much to everyone’s relief, Sirius slipped into Remus’s bed and cuddled up to him.

“Looking forward to the match, Moons?” he asked, running his hands over his boyfriend’s back.

Remus sighed. “You know I hate the crowds, Pads. Do I really have to go? You always tell me that I’m a distraction anyway.” He turned around and smiled at Sirius, daring him to disagree.

“You have to come! I need your support. Do you know what makes me play the best? When I make a really good hit and I can hear you cheering for me. I’m going to make you scream my name, Moony. I need you there!”

“You’re a soppy sod, you know that?” Remus asked with affection. “Fine, I’ll come to the match and wear your jersey and paint red and gold on my cheeks and be a great personal cheerleader. Happy?”

Sirius grinned and kissed Remus on the nose. “Perfect. With you cheering us on, we can’t lose. You’re our lucky charm!” He jumped up off the bed to get ready for a shower.

Before he left, he turned back to Remus with a wicked grin on his face. “And make sure you keep my Quidditch jersey on later. I love seeing my name on you!”
