in elementary school we had. basically an immersive economics lesson that was "playing City," with different jobs and businesses; it was mostly semi-free time for socializing and selling/buying toys and snacks from each other. one of the lessons we were supposed to learn was the importance of paying a small amount of money into health and/or business insurance, because you had a chance of being hit with the Daily Disaster and a huge bill.

anyway, some kid who didn't buy insurance got hit with a "medical bill" early on, so he was supposed to be bankrupt and have to sit the rest of the game out. the 8 year olds were not having it and spontaneously invented crowdfunding so he could keep playing with everyone else.

endlessly, morbidly fascinated by how when you're a kid you're constantly having parents, school, religion, media, all drumming it into your head that Sharing Is Good And You Need To Do It, and then you grow up and suddenly they're all like right never mind all that, this is The Real World and it's every bastard for himself

When he was young, Remus been terrified that someone from the Ministry would find him, uncover his secret, and take him away from his parents. His family had been constantly on edge, moving from place to place to ensure no one discovered the “monster” they were hiding. His childhood nightmares were filled with faceless Ministry officials with enormous nets, ready to haul him off to live with his own kind. He would scream, but no one would help him. His mother’s cries would follow him, desperate, heart-wrenching—but always distant, as if she was on the other side of an impenetrable wall, just out of reach. He’d wake up in a cold sweat, clutching his pillow, too afraid to make a sound.

His parents tried their best to reassure him, holding him close and telling him he was safe, that they would always protect him. But Remus could see the strain on their faces, the sleepless nights and the constant worry etched into their expressions. The fear was contagious, binding them all together in shared secrecy and the constant, gnawing dread of discovery. 

If there was one place Remus never wanted to step foot in it was the Ministry of Magic, the place that housed the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures. The place that exterminated the beasts.

It's a bit surreal to have to say this, but please don't rate fics in public bookmarks on ao3. If you need to, you can do that in the private bookmarks, but I'm so sick of people treating fics like this. It's always the people who never comment as well.

Don't get me wrong, I totally get leaving 10/10, 20/10 and so on, it's cute way to show you loved the story, but imagine you're an author that poured so much free time, blood and sweat into working on a fic and the only thing you get is a '3/10' '5/10'. Or even 'mediocre. 6/10'.

Have a little compassion for how nerve wrecking it's to share your work (and for free!). For how we desperatly wait for any comment or nice interaction only to receive numbers like this like a punch to the face.

If you need to treat fics like this, do it in private bookmarks, not where the author - but also everyone else - can see.

Remus had heard the tales about the beautiful siren who lived hidden deep in the forest in a magical pond that was said to only appear in the moonlight, but she did not think she would ever get to meet her.

For the longest time, Remus thought moonlight meant the full moon. This misunderstanding happened because any mention of the moon made her so anxious she stopped listening. So of course she would never be able to meet this magical beauty; her pond only crossed over into their realm on the same nights Remus was busy turning into a horrible beast. It was therefore a shocking surprise, to say the least, when she was out picking herbs beneath the barely visible crescent moon, and the glimmering water appeared between the trees.

Remus dropped her herb basket and ran towards the pond, enchanted by the way the water shimmered in the moonlight. In the distance she could hear someone sing a beautiful song, and everything in her told her to keep walking towards that beautiful voice...

The pond's chill barely registered on Remus' skin as she stepped into the pond. Entranced, she stepped forward, her skirt pooling around her as the silty bed fell sharply away. The song grew warmer around her, pleased at her presence and becoming her further. Remus slipped the dress from her shoulders, allowing it to slink into water. She ducked her head under the water, taking her first stroke and leaving her clothes behind.
