A/N: The fic that started it all! This was one of the very first scenes I dreamed up for Negan and Kate and it was perfect for @flames-bring-a-ton-of-ash’s Fall Into Negan challenge, which she hosted back in 2017. The feedback I got inspired me to tell the story from the beginning, so a huge shout out to everyone who commented back then. “Mmmph,” came a quiet and muffled response.

“Kate, c’mon kitty cat. Wakey wakey,” Negan pressed, keeping his voice soft. His hand moved down under the covers, gliding over the dip of her waist and the curve of her hip, giving her ribs a little tickle as it came back up.

“Nnnnmmpph,” protested a stirring Kate, moving away and burying her face in the pillow. A rush of cool air hit her whole body followed by a stinging slap to her ass.

Ha ha Easy Street... goddamn. I really like how you don’t vilify Frankie like everyone else does (including myself). I’ve probably said that before, but I’ll say it again. Kate is a very polarizing OC and she would most definitely stir up some confrontation with at least one of the wives and possibly some other people.

Something about his rage made you tick, that unhinged temper of his made you crave his very presence as he used it to intimidate the others. If he only knew how badly you wanted him… how much you wanted to put that rage to better use than senseless violence.

Kate didn’t sleep for long, and when she woke she was utterly confused. Every inch of her body told her she’d just gone an epic round with Negan – so why did she feel so alone?

Turning over, she saw him. Lying with his back to her, on the other side of the bed. It made her feel a wave of emotion, and loneliness. It was silly; all he’d done was fall asleep and move away. But most times with Negan she woke with his arms wrapped around her and the distance hurt. Maybe he’d rolled away deliberately before drifting off.

This was a mistake.

Kate stretched out her whole body and felt something slightly harsh around her neck. Moving her fingers to her throat she felt the necklace Negan had given her. So intimate at the time; now it felt like it was choking her. Kate got up swiftly and went to the bathroom and grabbed a washcloth. She went to the sink and turned her head to the side, inspecting the lover’s gift. He’d told her to wear it for the rest of the day.

Kate dashed down the hallway from her old room. She’d gotten her jeans, shirt and socks on but carried her boots in her right hand. Her holster was hitched over one shoulder and she’d shoved her desert eagle down the back of her waistband. Kate reached the staircase and hopped onto the bannister. She slid down the smooth wooden handrail, passing Larry on the way down. She dismounted with ease and swung a left.

“Seven! Six!”

Negan was taking his time with the countdown. The main hallway intersected across the corridor she was currently hurtling down. At the junction she planted her feet and skidded across the stone floor.

“Five! Four!”

“Negan!” yelled Kate at the top of her lungs, “I know you can hear me!”

Silence.

Thank god.

Kate leaned against the wall just long enough to shove her feet into her boots and trotted to the front door. She poked her head out and saw Negan, with Lucille in one hand and microphone in the other. Their eyes met; he leaned back and gave her a malicious smile.  Behind him some Saviors were watching, standing around the truck they had travelled in. The next thing Kate registered was the line-up. Ali, Hana, A.J and a couple of others all with their backs to her. They were on their knees. She walked briskly out onto the drive and held her arms out in exasperation.

“Oh come on now! Is this really necessary?”

Her friends looked up at her from hip-height as she strode up to Negan. He handed the microphone to one of the Saviors.

 Michonne kept her word, and so did Anna. Having rejoined society again, in exchange for the regular meals and her beautiful home that was probably a year’s salary more than her last home, Anna was given work in the fields to start. Compared to the others who had been used to this kind of labor for a long while, Anna felt a little embarrassed, but lucky for her, she wasn’t the only inexperienced farmhand joining the ranks. At Anna’s and Judith’s vouching, Negan was being put to work.

“Hey, that’s not a weed,” Anna swatted his hand away from the leafy green top of a beet, instead guiding his hand to an actual weed. “Pull this instead.”

Snorting, Negan mumbled under his breath, “I don’t know my way around a garden bed, darlin’, but you put me in the bedroom and I don’t need any fucking help.”

Cheeks already red from hard work and strong sunlight, Anna allowed herself a small smile at his flirting and returned to her own task.
