Do you think that when there’s a solar eclipse in Prythian that Rhys goes to the Day Court and just….gets in Helion’s way as much as he possibly can? I think he would.
High Lord and High Lady
im halfway through acowar and feel like im gonna die
that post about Rhys being Aussie. I think he has an English accent because Sarah j Maas said she based the map of Prythian of the UK, go look
Yeah, she did say that. I always assumed he had a light scottish lilt but seeing as illyians are poc I have no idea what to think anymore.
Haha, okay so. The aussie comment was because he says “mate” as a nickname or title to Feyre (and it made me snort each time), like aussies do in their everyday speech. “Thanks for the beer mate!” I was making fun of it. I know Rhys isn’t actually an aussie.
“He chuckled. “What about your firstborn?” A secret smile as he gestured with that small boy’s hand to himself. Rhys’s attention slid to me, surprise—surprise and something deeper, more tender—flickering on his face. “Not just any boy, then.” My cheeks heated. “No. Not just any boy.”” (...) “What does he look like?” The question was soft—tentative. I knew who he meant. I interlaced my fingers through Rhysand’s and squeezed tightly. “Let me show you.” And as we walked through the darkness, toward that distant, still-hidden light, I did.”
“Cassian, of course, found me first. Mocked me, beat me to hell, then offered to train me. Rhys was there the next day. They taught me to fly.”
.......... of course he did. That aside THEY TAUGHT THEIR BROTHER TO FLY <3
“Rhys murmured, “If she…” His swallow was audible. “If she showed up at this house…” I knew who he meant. “I would kill her. Without even letting her speak. I would kill her.” (...) “You asked me at the library,” he whispered. “Why I… Why I’d rather take all of this upon myself. Tonight is why. Seeing Mor cry is why. I made a bad call. Tried to find some other way around this shithole we’re in.” And had lost something—Mor had lost something—in the process.”
STOP LYING TO YOUR FRIENDS. LET THEM SEE YOU. EVERYTHING HURTS.
“If Amarantha offered us a slim shot at survival,” Rhys said, his gaze unflinching, “then I would not give a shit that she made me fuck her for all those years.” Cassian flinched. The entire room flinched. “If Amarantha showed up at that door right now,” Rhys snarled, pointing toward the foyer entry, “and said she could buy us a chance at defeating Hybern, at keeping all of you alive, I would thank the fucking Cauldron.” Mor shook her head, tears slipping free again. “You don’t mean that.” “I do.”
STOP THIS. STOP IT. STOP HURTING EACH OTHER. NO YOU DON’T MEAN IT AT ALL RHYS. YOU LIAR. I DON’T BELIEVE IT FOR A FUCKIGN SECOND. YOU’D KILL HER YOU WOULDN’T LET HER TAKE ANOTHER STEP. STOP MAKING MOR FEEL SELFISH STOP PRETENDING STOP STOP STOP.
“Cassian was halfway to Mor when she whirled on Rhys and said, “Why?” “Her voice broke. And something in my chest cracked, too, at the tears that began running down her face.” (…) Cassian moved to Mor’s side, a hand on her back. He shook his head at Azriel and Rhys, disgust curling his lip. “You should have spiked Eris’s fucking head to the front gates.” (…) “Mor blinked. Cassian’s hand moved to her shoulder and squeezed. (…) Keir and his ilk may come here … But they will not find it a welcoming place. Or one where they can even procure lodgings.” Mor shook her head as she whispered, “He’ll still destroy it. (…) “Cassian slid his arm around her shoulders, his face harder than I’d ever seen it as he studied Rhys. Then Azriel. “You should have warned us.”
BLESS YOU CASSIAN. SOMEONE ON MOR’S SIDE <3 NO HESITATION. 100% ON HER SIDE. ALWAYS. CASSIAN IS IMPORTANT AND HIS AND MOR'S FRIENDSHIP IS /IMPORTANT/. He is unwavering against the brothers he loves when they treat Mor like this. I loved this so much. Because they fucked up. I know Rhys and Azriel did what they thought they needed to do. But you don’t let Mor go in there blind. You just don’t. This is bullshit.
“What’s done is done. Agonizing over it won’t change anything. You realized it was a line you didn’t like crossing, and so you won’t make that mistake again.”
This, exactly this, has been a mantra of mine for years. Think my mom said it to me once when I had made a hard choice and not sure I liked it. And she was like “Well, you have made the choice now so you might as well live with it and enjoy it. Or else the choice/decision was for nothing. Now you will know better next time what to do.” It was good advice.
“I asked him the same thing,” I said, crossing my arms. “He said he ‘went fast.’” Nesta vomited again—then silence. Cassian sighed at the ceiling. “She’ll never fly again.”
First of all, HAHAHA RHYS. Second of all, Cassian being worried/frustrated she won’t want to fly agaaain. She’ll gonna wanna fly with you my sunshine bat, promise <3
“The Carver’s that bad.” “You’re asking this right before we’re to meet with him?” I hissed, “I assumed Rhys would have put his foot down if it was that risky.” “Rhys has been known to hatch plans that make my heart stop dead,” Cassian grumbled. “So, I wouldn’t count on him to be the voice of reason.” I scowled at Cassian, earning a wolfish grin in return.”
Will I ever get enough of Feyre/Cassian’s banter? No. No I will never. And in an exciting twist Cassian is not the reckless one. I mean he did wreck that one building, but he probably hadn’t planned on it. *ahem*
“Yes. If there are those, human or faerie, who need a safe place… this city will be open to them. Velaris has been closed off for so long—too long, perhaps. Adding new people, from different places, different histories and cultures… I do not see how that could be a bad thing. The transition might be more complex than we anticipate, but… yes. The gates to this city will be open for those who need its protection. To any who can make it here.”
SJM might be close lipped about politics on social media but if this isn’t a political statement I don’t know what is.
@dalliantthoughts replied to your post “Rhys said smoothly…”
really? i was incredibly bothered by this, especially as it is apparent he said it in jest. and it’s not like they didn’t have conversations like this in acomaf. what bothered me even more is that he then apologised for this. like, wth?
I suspected someone would not like that I liked this. Okay. This is gonna get long because I want to explain why I think this is perfectly okay and also justified.
First of all, I love Rhys. Second of all, if you love someone you don't let other people joke about them when they're vulnerable. He 100% should apologise for it, and I am so glad he did it without Feyre having to ask him to. He insults her sister. Rhys gets that. He said a dumb thing and he apologised. See, it might be in jest, but that was not the time for it. Humour has to do with timing. He later on jokes that Nesta is more bloodthirsty than Amren, and Feyre doesn’t mind, Feyre joins in because it is funny. Because he was joking about how powerful/dangerous Nesta is to their enemy and how similar to their beloved friend she is. Not about how unlikable she is or what bad mood she puts everyone in, or how the home Feyre loves so much is not ready for Nesta/that Nesta won’t fit in. Humour is only funny if you are kicking up, not when you are kicking down. Aka you can aim your jokes towards people who has the power, who have privilege, who are in control (Nesta is in control when she says she wants to kill Hybern, when she demands the death of the queens, she negotiates her own terms). But aiming those jokes towards someone who is vulnerable and hurting is not okay (Nesta never got to choose what happened to her in Hybern, she never had a choice, she absolutely gets to be pissed). Nesta was at peace with Rhys and The Night Court at the end of ACOMAF. She no longer felt the need to be rude or snappy to Rhys or Feyre. She even bows her head to her sister and tells Feyre she understands why you painted the night sky, referring to Rhys, referring to her sister being happy and free. So remove all of your grievances with Nesta from acotar and acomaf and look at the situation as it was: Imagine you have not seen your sister in a month and last time you saw her you saw someone take the right to her own body from her, you saw them force something on her that she did not want, that she violently tried to fight off and you saw her in pain. After that you have no idea how she is feeling, all you know she is alive and healing. That’s it. The first time you see her she is angry. She is hurt. And she wants a nothing to do with the people that led her to be in this position. And then the person you love most in the world apart from your sisters makes a joke at her expense when you yourself is still raw about seeing your sister in pain, still worried about her. It’s not okay. And it’s not funny. And you have the right to snap at him for it.
Also there is the golden rule about siblings: I get to be rude, I get to say shit about my siblings. No one else does. But the main reason I like this is because I want Feyre and Nesta to solve their thing between themselves. I don’t want Rhys or Cassian snooping or meddling or commenting on the sisters’s relationship to each other. I want this to be their thing and their own development, outside of Rhys and Cassian. That’s how I think about this scene. But everyone gets to read things differently. I just felt like I wanted to explain why I liked it since you questioned it. If you reply to this please keep out spoilers! I’ve only read 200 pages so far :)
(Sorry this got overly long….)
“I’m sorry I snapped at you.” He lifted a dark brow. “Why in hell would you be? I insulted your sister; you defended her. You had every right to kick my ass for it.”
AND HE GETS IT. I love you, Rhys.
“Rhys said smoothly, “I’m not entirely sure Velaris is prepared for Nesta Archeron.” “My sister’s not some feral animal,” I snapped. Rhys recoiled a bit, the others suddenly finding the carpet, the divan, the books incredibly fascinating. “I didn’t mean that.” I didn’t answer.”
THIS IS EVERYTHING I EVER WANTED. They’re sisters. Feyre can talk crap about her sister. No one else can. That is the rule of sisterhood *glances at my own annoying sisters* I will kill anyone who says a bad word about them. Seriously though, I am so happy about this. Feyre loves her sister. Feyre loves Rhys. Rhys loves Feyre. But she is not having this, and that is important to me.
Also, I need some friction/disagreements between Feyre and Rhys in ACOWAR. Just to keep them on their toes and ya know, personal development. And for the dramzzz.
“Rhys snorted. “I can stay hidden, mate.”
HAHAHA. I could look past it when it was said as “You’re my mate” or “he’s my mate” or “My mate is High Lady” or whatever. But using it like this, as a nickname/title? We ain’t in Australia, mate. Yet that is all I hear. I get your struggles now, @brekkfast, I snorted out loud.
“Rhys and Cassian used the time to unabashedly sun their wings by the open balcony ledge.”
This is the most important piece of information in my life.
