Buon Natale, Doppio

This is my Day 1 submission for Unita Speciale Week 2019. 

“Buon Natale” means “Merry Christmas” in Italian.

The Boss is clear in his instructions. He tells Doppio to arrive at the hotel at 8 pm, have dinner, then go to bed. He also adds to get plenty of rest because the job starts early the next day. 

The trip to Palermo is enjoyable enough. It’s for work after all, it isn’t meant to be fun. Although used to traveling for work, this time it’s making Doppio a bit sad. He’s surrounded by families traveling for the holidays. 

He keeps to himself but he can’t help smiling at the babies that look at him or making funny faces to the children who first make silly faces at him. They both laugh and try to act natural when the parent looks over. 

Then the feeling hits him again. He feels oddly alone. This usually isn’t a problem. He has his job and his boss. These two are his reason for living. That should be enough for him, but he can’t deny that sometimes it’s not.
