calling it now, New Spring chapter 12 cold open for the Cairhien ep, featuring:
- the Ajah-provided first set of dresses
- Moiraine loose-hair-don't-care era to contrast how contained she is upon her return to the capital
- Siuan stepping on the road to spymaster and Daes Dae'mar dominance (making it clear she learned none of her subtlety from Moiraine, foreshadowing her role in Egwene's Tower)
- reveal that "lady from a fallen house" actually meant "earmarked for the throne" (bonus points for a Carewin name drop) and establishing exactly how the Damodred line contributed to the current state of Cairhien
- underlining just how inevitable it was that they'd end up so thoroughly tangled up in the pattern
- and of course, the kiss

every so often I remember it's canon that moiraine would have fucked rand if she thought it would further her cause and then i have to stare at a wall for a solid hour until i'm normal again

The sounds of celebration ring through the city. In her bedchamber a few floors up the Tower, the Watcher of the Seals, the Flame of Tar Valon, the Amyrlin Seat flops facedown on the bed with an unceremonious groan. The festivities will continue for the remainder of the month, but Siuan has not had the time, the energy, nor the inclination to partake.
"Mother–" Moiraine begins from beside her, and Siuan can feel the shit-eating grin plastered on her face as surely as she can feel her own heart thudding in chest.
"Don't you start," she grumbles, whacking blindly at whatever part of Moiraine lies nearest. "Light, it's bad enough that Sheriam spends half our conversations mid-curtsy.”
“You poor thing, however do you survive?”
Siuan drags a pillow over her head and groans again, louder and more prolonged. "Hello to you too. Have you come back to do anything other than mock me and steal another angreal?"

It's painfully familiar, the warring of grief with relief, interrupted only by swift dagger thrusts of self-loathing. All too reminiscent of those days bookending Tamra's funeral. She reaches up to cradle Moiraine's jaw, swiping the pad of her thumb across Moiraine's lower lip. "So none of that."
"I was not–" Moiraine begins, but if the unfinished statement alone weren't enough to call out an aborted lie then her disgruntled expression would do.
