It’s the first day of school, my first day as a music composition major. I get to meet all my new classmates and hopefully make some new friends.
It’s also choir audition day and I’m auditioning to get into the top choir. Auditions are vastly increased in difficulty this year for various reasons. I have several conflicts of interest going:
- I want to get into the top choir because the music is more complex/rewarding and I want to be able to study it from the inside for composition purposes, because I really want to compose choral music (as well as other vocal/theatre music)
- Top choir callbacks are at the same time as the composition students-faculty party, so I can only go to THAT and make connections with students and teachers and make myself known if I don’t get invited to callbacks
- I was in the second best choir this past year and loved it and I’m extremely loyal to the director, who helped me immensely during my gender journey. He changed my life really. So I also don’t want to feel, if I get in to the top choir, that I’m abandoning him
I’m at school all day from 10 to 8 or 9 so we’ll just see how this goes today.
