AYYY

I LIVE!

(sort of) (no promises as to how long)

Let me know what questions you have, what animals/plants you want to see, what conditions are interesting, or what body parts fascinate you.

Lost everything I had in the inbox previously. I tried to retrieve them via restore and the actual help system, but I lost my entire inbox aside from a solitary message from a discontinued account saying “BATS”. So if you want bats, I’m on it. Otherwise, request away.

Vulpus vulpus, the Red Fox. Well, this is the “silver fox”, a melanistic variation of the red fox.

The gene mutation responsible for melanism in foxes also purportedly creates fluffier, finer, and denser fur than their average red counterparts. However, since the primary reports of fur quality were coming from Eastern Siberia (which had a large silver fox population), it may have been more of a climate-based microevolutionary change that caused the higher-quality fur. Reports I’ve read from early fur-trading posts in the Northeast (where 8-10% of the population of foxes was silver) don’t note any particular difference in the quality of the fur, though of course its rare colour did command a much higher price than other pelts.

I wasn't either of those anon's but I really wanted to thank you for being really respectful and considerate about tagging stuff that bothers people. You'd be shocked how many blogs with similar content to yours (weird science, medical curiosities etc) I've seen outright insult people that request any accommodations and I always find that so annoying and rude. I loved your blog already but seeing you handle that so politely makes me have a lot of respect for you now as well.

Aw, cheers mate! I know I have a somewhat unique blog in that I cover a huge range of 18th-early 20th century stuff, but my followers are generally pretty rad, and honestly, if it’s not a benefit for me to get worked up over, who cares? I’ll for sure forget to tag that shit for a while, but those guys will remind me until I remember, and then it’s no sweat on anyone’s part.

Honestly, I get so many requests that it’s literally impossible to fulfill them all. I still feel sorta bad about that some days. When it’s a simple +tag request, it’s hard to be like “no that’s too much work/no you’re dumb”.

I know I have cute things. I know some people just love my critters and basic anatomy. I know some people love horrific anatomy and hate animals! If you wanna filter my blog, go for it. If you wanna find specific things, that’s why I tag so much! If you wanna hate on me for accommodating others, say your piece! I’m open to everything, even if I can’t respond to everything.

I requested the Amanita Muscaria forever ago, thanks for getting around to it

I don't delete the vast majority of requests, especially if they're things I haven't done before or interesting subjects. ^^

By the way, I'm obviously sort of bad at getting around to requests when my life gets busy, but for anyone with a long-overdue question or suggestion, I'm taking a week off between my last day of work and moving, so hopefully I'll be able to get around to most of my backlog then! I mean, assuming my plague-ridden partner doesn't go and die during that time. Which he might. In which case, my apologies for putting things off even longer.

(p.s. no, my partner doesn't really have the plague, he's just infected and looked vaguely plague-like for a while)

I have ingested far too much coffee for a Saturday night, so let me know if you've any questions or natural history requests. I've got to finish my psych paper right quick, but I'll answer a few after that.

Medical history requests are cool, too, but I may not outright answer them - I tend to keep those in my inbox for when I'm short on inspiration and long on time I have available to research.

If anyone has seen Mr. Anderson's right calf and foot, he would rather like to have it back now. We won't judge you. We just would like it returned. He needs to go hunt squirrels tomorrow, and holding a shotgun on one leg is rather difficult.

And Bobby, we know what you did with Mrs. Black's dentures, so don't go tellin' your mammy fibs about how you had nothing to do with the two snakes and the Shetland pony at the motel down on Main Street! Your little brother had to have surgery because of you; you ought to be ashamed!

Parasites or histology next week?

Parasites are half boring/mostly gross (when the manifestations of them are shown, especially genital manifestations - those even gross me out) to most people.

Histology examples (tissues) are boring/incomprehensible to most but incredibly interesting to a few.

Historically, both are important, and I've already done a few posts on each, but I know I promised I'd around to doing more on them.

So.

Next week.

Which one?

Will accept answers until midnight GMT +6 tonight (aka midnight US Central Standard time).

Guys, calm yo'selves. I'll get to everything, seriously.

The point of me doing a bunch of natural history stuff for a couple days is to post something easier while I'm trying to read through confusing 17th-19th century literature...right now I'm poking through my zoology folders and posting requests, so don't freak out if I don't get to yours right away. I know it's there. It'll be done. It'll still be a few days until I'm done with these books. Plenty of time for more animals before I post new medical stuff.

Your enthusiasm for some of these species is awesome, though ;P

Have a totem goanna to tide you over.
