I don’t understand why more people don’t ship Sam and Steve? Anytime I watch Winter Soldier, I’m legitimately sitting here going… what the f*ck is wrong with y’all?
Allow me to make a few points, and then tell me the fandom isn’t missing out.
1. Sam and Steve meet on a friendly competitive jog, they immediately have chemistry and strike up a conversation. Steve seems genuinely interested in getting to know him, despite the fact that The Avengers clearly painted a Steve that was more cautious.
2. Steve visits Sam at his place of work. Respects Sam immediately. Pursues a friendship with Sam in a way we haven’t seen him reach out to anyone else in his past movies.
3. When all falls to shit and he doesn’t know who he can trust. Steve does not turn to the other Avengers. He turns to the person he’s only met twice before, who he seems to trust without batting an eye.
4. Sam, who has no reason to help a marked man, or get involved with this superhero business, doesn’t even hesitate before letting Steve and Natasha in. Not only that, he doesn’t think twice before joining them on their mission impossible, despite the fact that he doesn’t think he’s in their league.
5. Sam is given 1000% transparency. Not only that, he’s brought inside the inner circle of Nick Fury and Maria Hill. That should be enough to send any normal man running for the hills, but he stays by Steve’s side.
6. Sam is the one who’s by Steve’s side at the hospital. Not only that, he’s playing Marvin Gaye, and he’s sitting there silently for Steve to wake up because this man MATTERS to him.
7. Nick Fury offers him a job, but Sam declines immediately. Chooses to help Steve instead.
Don’t come at me with “Sam isn’t as important as Bucky” or “Sam can’t compare” or “They’re platonic”.
None of that shit seems platonic to me. And had those scenes been with a good looking white male character, y’all would’ve salivated yourselves shipping them.
Sam Wilson is fundamentally important to Steve.
Sam Wilson represents the first true connection he’s made with the present time.
Sam Wilson is the first true friend he’s made since Bucky.
Sam Wilson is the person Steve Rogers trusts unequivocally.
Sam Wilson is the person Steve Rogers goes to when he’s vulnerable.
Sam Wilson is the person who immediately wins Steve’s respect.
Sam Wilson is valid and worthy and more than deserves to be shipped with Steve Rogers.
