carlos, your edits are to die for. like idk how your gifs look that quality? do you have any sharpening tips?

Thank you so much, Tana! ❤️ As for my settings, I use the timeline to convert the frames to a smart object then just do smart sharpening at 500% amount and 0.4 radius. After, I reduce the opacity in the blending options to 70% and that's pretty much it. One big tip I'd give though is to set the resample to bicubic smoother when resizing your gif. That makes gifs look way nicer after you've sharpened them.

hey neve, how did you do the shiny text in your beautiful pinned gifset? :)

hey, thank you for being so nice!! i’m gonna try and explain this half-decently lmao so bear with

so, start with your white text layer like this (it does need to be white):

then, in the blend modes, set it to ‘difference’ so it looks like this:

now, clicking the little ‘fx’ tab at the bottom, i selected ‘gradient overlay’ which opens this panel:

you have to change the blend mode of the gradient overlay. for this one, i used ‘linear light’ which usually creates the kind of shiny effect. multiply and others are good too, it depends on the scene sometimes.

now it looks like this:

now, for me this wasn’t shiny enough and it had some green moments that i wasn’t a fan of. so, i went back into the ‘fx’ tab and selected ‘colour overlay’

i chose the shade of yellow/gold i wanted and set this blend mode to ‘colour’ and that was it! we ended up with this:

for the small text, i decided to forgo the gradient and just added a colour overlay instead. i repeated this with different colours for the rest of the set :)

hope this was clear enough for you anon!! <3

HOW I COLOR DARK SCENES — A TUTORIAL

AKA how I get from this:

to this:

Before you start this tutorial, here is some things you already have to know or be able to do:

  1. Basic knowledge of how to make gifs including where to get footage, what quality to use, how to screencap or import videos into frames, how to use Timeline and how to sharpen gifs.
  2. Basic knowledge of how to use Photoshop layers and what they do including: Curves, Selective Color, and how to set opacity of layers.

Note: If you are unfamiliar with my technique, here is a link to a different tutorial by @thepunisher, who introduced me to this technique ages ago! Have a read through, if you find my own explanations confusing!

The rest of this tutorial will be put under cut as it is extremely long because I take the time to explain what each layer does and why I chose to do it.

BASIC COLORING TUTORIAL:

this is my first video tutorial. i know i sound a bit nasally, and i ramble a lot, so please go easy on me. if there are parts you didn't understand, just send me an ask or a message and i'll be happy to explain it for you. this isn't a fancy coloring tutorial. it's very basic. it isn't overly saturated. it keeps the integrity of the scene while brightening the gif and highlighting a few key colors. that's pretty much it. if you guys liked this, please hit reblog, it'll go a long way. this video was made for @wintersoldierrogers (the lovely bianca). i hope you enjoy it and find it useful.

An alternative to font-awesome

icons other than font-awesome?  yep - they do exist - and here is a particularly lovely alternative.  vector linear icons ( from linearicons.com ).  the icons are ‘lighter’ in appearance than font-awesome and would be great for more minimalist style themes.

let’s be honest, the fact that they have a sun and moon linear icon ( as well as all of the standard ones you might like to use - home/mail/arrows/etc. ) they also have a poop icon - so i was sold…

how to use – ( you can use SVG or font versions, font works just fine on tumblr and can by styled with your usual css! )

Icon Font

if you want to use icon fonts, paste the following link to your HTML’s <head>:

<link rel=“stylesheet” href=“https://cdn.linearicons.com/free/1.0.0/icon-font.min.css”>

to insert the icon;

<span class=“lnr lnr-poop”></span>

refer to the cheat sheet for a list of all available icons.

[ note// remember to retype the quotation marks if copy/pasting the links from here or it won’t work! ]

more examples…

One of the biggest advantages of the Internet is the facility we have today to gain knowledge of different places. But that doesn’t mean it’s easy to find. When I started trying to mess around with HTML/CSS just ‘cause I wanted to make my own tumblr themes, I had no idea where to start and just take me more than it should to learn. As a way to organize all the information I have stored for a long time and also to help those who want to start programming, I organized this masterpost with several sites far beyond codeacademy, software and some books in PDF to help you start programming, or increase your skills in programming if you already know. Information presented here help both those who don’t know how to program in any language and seeks knowledge only as a hobby or students of computer. English is not my native language and I’m not that good with, so just ignore any grammar errors. All the materials in this post are free. And don’t forget to Ctrl + click in the link to open in a new tab. Attention: If you live in Brazil, go here for the portuguese version of this post with some sites that work exclusively in Brazil.

can you post the texture you use for your gifs?

Sure thing love.

^ little dot, that’s it.

Just save it and define it as a pattern in your photoshop. It’ll do the rest.
