Any thoughts on the recent GRRM blog post? Everyone seems to be freaking out saying Winds is now abandoned

It'll come when it comes. And if it doesn't, it won't. Ben Sisko said it best: the souffle will rise or it won't, and there's not a damn bit of difference worrying will do about it.

I'm not going to judge the man, he owes me nothing. I do wish he'd stop delving into Targaryen stuff, because I seriously don't care about House Targaryen. If we're going to actually get some side content, give me something on the Starks, or the Lannisters, or heck, even the Gardeners and Durrandons. They're more interesting to me - I have enough content on the Targs. But his life and his creations are his, he can do as he pleases.

Thanks for the question, Anon.

I think a lot of fans frustrations with his post comes off in the abrasive nature of his taking about The Winds of Winter. To me, it was borderline rude, and kinda tone deaf. A big reason fans are frustrated isn’t just that it’s been eleven years since A Dance with Dragons came out, it’s that he said in 2016 that he wasn’t going to take on any additional projects only to take on one project after another, be it The World of Ice and Fire, or Fire and Blood Vol 1, only for him to wonder why fans are upset after he said he couldn’t tackle any other projects.

That’s just my two cents, though.

In a 60 Minutes interview before the premier of Season 8, GRRM said that D&D's ending will be very similar to his. I know you don't watch the show, but the way things are shaping up, it ain't looking like how you think it's going to end (and I agree with your predictions for the most part). I honestly don't think GRRM was really telling the truth, given how D&D didn't introduce FAegon, Dragonbinder, or the Horn of Winter. What's your opinion on this? Do you think GRRM was telling a half truth?

Similar is such an ambiguous word, and GRRM has made other statements highlighting the importance of characters in the novel series that are either dead or never existed in the show that differences will emerge. Also, context and motivation matter in the novel series the way that they don’t in the show, and given how critical motivation is to the novel series when it comes to exploring characters to the point that it’s one of GRRM’s critical selling points.

I wouldn’t worry, Anon. Thanks for the question.

Then again, I simply don’t see how GRRM could get to the same place the show is by the end of it all. So maybe people (including myself) are worrying over nothing.
