Five conversations that Eddie and Ramon have over the course of a year as they work on their relationship.
a very, very, very late birthday present for @tawaifeddiediaz. in my defense, i did start writing it before her birthday, but it took me a while to. finish. thanks to @oneawkwardcookie for helping!

one.
It had been a good night. Chaotic, as most of their nights were these days, in their little household of three, but in the best way possible - he and Buck took turns working with Chris on his homework and working on dinner, and they ate and talked and laughed until Eddie felt the kind of warmth that only came from spending time with his family. Chris was reading in his room now, Eddie could hear Buck moving around in the kitchen as Eddie finished straightening up the living room, and he had plans for a quiet night in together after they finished cleaning. Yeah, it was the best kind of night.
“Hey, Eddie,” Buck poked his head in from the dining room. “You wanna go say goodnight to Chris? I’ll finish up in here.”
Eddie rose up from the coffee table with the TV remote still in hand. “Why? His bedtime’s not for another half an hour.”
Buck was smirking inexplicably as he stepped into the living room proper. “You forgot, didn’t you.”
Eddie frowned. “What did I forget?”
“Your mom and dad are going to be calling in…about ten minutes.”
What - oh, fuck.
He and his parents were trying to be better about keeping up with each other and actually talking, which meant calls every other Sunday unless he had a shift. Which was today, and Eddie had, like an idiot, forgotten about it.
Buck was still grinning, walking forward to take the remote out of Eddie’s hand and set it down. “Didn’t you guys want to be better with talking now?”
“Yeah, but I forgot. And I had plans.” Eddie knew he was whining like his kid now. He didn’t particularly care.
Buck’s eyebrows shot up. “What kind of plans?”
“Never mind. I’m gonna go say goodnight to Christopher,” Eddie sighed, pressing a kiss to Buck’s lips.
“Eddie, wait! What kinds of plans?”

This is Captain 118. We're gonna need a black and white at our current location. Our backyard accident seems to be an attempted murder. We've apprehended a suspect.

also known as: the riding fic that got wildly out of control
as always, for @tawaifeddiediaz, who asked for this and then held my hand through the entire process
It all happens so fast that Buck honestly can’t remember how they got here.
Maybe it starts when Hen suggests they all go out after shift, or maybe it starts with the man riding the bull, or maybe it starts when Buck turns to Eddie and winks, says, “You know, I know how to ride one of those.” In any case, Buck makes a mental note to bring up his time as a ranch hand only in private after that, because Eddie - very uncharacteristically, very unsubtly - all but drags Buck out of the bar after that, practically manhandling him into the car, driving home faster than Buck’s ever seen him.
aka buck wasn’t the only one clinging
[Image ID: 4 GIFs of Taylor Kelly from 9-1-1. GIF 1: In a highly charged emotional moment, after Eddie was shot and Buck behaved recklessly, Taylor impulsively strides over to Buck at his loft and kisses him. GIF 2: After Buck and Taylor talk about Buck kissing another woman and lying about it, Buck tells her, "I want this to work." Taylor cups his face and softly replies, "Me, too. So no more lies." GIF 3: After watching Buck and Lucy talk at a fire, Taylor walks over to Lucy and passive aggresively threatens her, "For Buck, that firehouse is his family. When things gets messy at the 118, he falls apart. I'd hate for things to get messy again." GIF 4: When Buck and Taylor have a major argument concerning her ethics on the job, Buck tells her, I need things to be different, Taylor." Taylor offers to change and start over, "Okay. I'm willing to try that. Clean slate." /end ID]

as always, i am incapable of writing without @tawaifeddiediaz 💜
Buck is happy. Buck should be happy. Everyone he loves most is in one place, there’s enough food, drinks, and laughter to go around, and he can feel the joy in the air. Hen and Karen, brimming with love, are taking turns dancing with each other and with Denny. Bobby and Athena have bright smiles as they look over their little family. Jee-Yun was being cooed at by everyone in the room before Maddie put her down for a nap, and Christopher was dorkily dancing with his dad and now he and Harry have their heads together over a video game. Buck even spotted Maddie and Chimney in one corner of the dance floor.
And Eddie. Buck has been unable to take his eyes off Eddie all day - Eddie making Christopher laugh, Eddie spinning May around the dance floor, Eddie with his suit and his jacket and his sleeves rolled up to his elbows that are destroying what’s left of Buck’s sanity. Eddie has been so much happier lately, lighter than Buck’s ever seen him - like a weight has been lifted off of his shoulders and he’s finally learning to live without it.
Buck is so, so proud of him, and so, so happy for him. He watches Eddie, who can dance, apparently, smile brightly when he twirls Maddie and she kisses his cheek, and laugh as he waltzes with Karen, and circle the floor with Jee-Yun in his arms, and thinks all I need is for him to be happy. He looks around, and he sees healing, and happiness, and everyone finding themselves and rediscovering love, and he thinks what more could I possibly want.
