So Close! haha

I tried to make out the words to that haunting part in The Broken Line and Broken Silence once, and I only missed two!

Me / Bear

But also, something to talk about another time:

I have theorized for a while that the conversation Sauron and Galadriel had, when he returned her dagger (1x03), was an early version of the pitch he gave in the Vision (1x08). The translation of those words makes me believe even more that episode 3 was, indeed, an innocent version of that temptation, planting in her mind the ever increasing desire for peace.

The Choice of Peace
"Perhaps some peace could do you good, as well."
"This is it. You bind me to the light, and I bind you to power."

I've already talked about the danger of giving in to that temptation:

I'M TELLING YOU GUYS, HE KNEW WHAT HE WAS DOING!! IT'S ALL UNDERNEATH THE MASK!!

Thoughts on Haladriel/Saurondriel

(I might be converted)

Okay, can I be COMPLETELY honest?

I always understood the shipping of Halbrand/Sauron and Galadriel, but for the sake of analyzing, I never let myself believe that there was any element of attraction from either side. Because they have a "cosmic connection," you know?

But something changed today (even though that "cosmic connection" is still very much a thing). I came to the conclusion that, while my pain for Galadriel has now increased manifold, I am so relieved from everything Morfydd said in her recent interview, particularly that the ambiguity behind their relationship was Charlie's idea (how dare he) because now I know that Charlie is Sauron, irl. Let me explain. (Prepare for a long read—bonus content at the end):

pinarism

After reading Bear McCreary's blog posts about the music of the series, i read this post under a new light!

And, the op is not far off it seems. There is Sauron's theme playing here under there in Black speech:

Nampat burzum-ank

Ash gul ishi ghash

Nampat burzum-ank

Agh ash gul krimp-at ishi ghash

translates to English as :

Death into darkness
One phantom in fire
Death into darkness
And one phantom to bind them in fire

In quenya it says:

Insangarë, anta mina írë, i cilmë et estë

which translates to English as :

Temptation, give into desire, the choice of peace

So we see that his offer may be genuine, he really wants her to join him(for reasons only known to him at this point) But once again i'm convinced he covets her like Melkor covets the silmarils.. I think he won't give up his quest to call her to his side in the coming seasons ( just to possess her light? eho knows?) and it seems he cannot stop doing so for Melkor also couldn't stop lusting for silmarils..

Well everybody should go and read McCreary's blog you guys won't regret it. Here is the link to episode 08-Alloyed, where he takes us to a journey to witness his thinking process for that episode but there are other posts specific for each episode in sections so go read!

Thank you for adding this! I second your recommendation to read Bear's blog. It contains invaluable insights. Everyone go read it!

And ohhh, yes, Galadriel and the Silmarils DO mirror each other. Darkness coveting light is a real thing. I explored the parallels between Morgoth + Silmarils and Galadriel + Halbrand/Sauron while making this video, actually:

Analysis Teaser 12 ~Addition~

I posted the 12th Analysis Teaser on Twitter, and someone pointed out that lilómëa is also heard at 2:32 in the instrumental version of Where the Shadows Lie.

Below is the isolated music of the other two scenes I mentioned before. The first scene transition illustrates that the word blends two seemingly unrelated storylines: mithril and Halbrand. In the second scene, the word is sung when those storylines officially merge.

In episode 7, we hear the mithril theme (which Bear has said is more accurately described as The Ring Theme).

The words are:

Airëa fra kala Blessed eternal light

But we heard the real Ring Theme in the credits of the first episode.

Lilómëa Full of darkness

And now we must ask ourselves:

Why is mithril still a controversial topic ?

Hello. As a watcher of a few drama series as well as a reader, I like how you noticed Easter eggs from season 1. Me personally, I follow character development as well as Easter eggs. (Not saying you don't.) For example, following Disa's development in season 1, one can conclude that she is a character who will fall under Sauron's influence going forward, which also, reinforces lore regarding the dwarves and hoarding. Interesting how the showrunners reinforce that she will get corrupted.

I want to add that if I go by Easter eggs alone and ignore character development, Bronwyn will be under his influence, as celebrimbor and Galadriel were, and Ar-Pharazon. However, since they will all know who he is this season, based on her character development, and not just Easter eggs, when she learns who he is, I see her leading a faction against him. Also she isn't in the lore so I wonder how much she will be a focus going forward, whereas Disa might be more likely effected.

I'm reblogging this because Bear McCreary released his breakdown of episode 7 yesterday, and it perfectly pertains to what I was saying about Disa. The music that plays during her monologue was unsettling to begin with, but the translation of the words makes it even darker.

The Prince of Cats

It's interesting that Tevildo's character in The Tale of Tinúviel is an early version of Sauron in The Silmarillion. Everything about Tevildo in that particular story parallels Sauron--being a great servant of Morgoth; holding Beren captive (which caused Lúthien to endeavor to rescue him); and the fight with Huan. Tevildo is even said to be a fay in beastlike shape, which (fay) is probably an early version of the word Maia (roughly), because Melian is a fay, and they are part of the group of beings that...

[...] were born before the world, and are older than its oldest, and are not of it. - (an excerpt from the Tale of the Coming of the Valar, taken from the book Beren and Lúthien.)

But what really got me is the description of Tevildo's eyes. We all know that Sauron's Eye is like a cat's, but since Tevildo is Sauron (in that early version of the story of Beren and Lúthien) maybe there was more to the casting of Charlie Vickers than we thought (him being green-eyed and what not).

From The Tale of Tinúviel:

His eyes were long and very narrow and slanted, and gleamed both red and green [...]

And I've always thought that the sharpening of his teeth as he screamed was to draw the connection to him being Lord of Werewolves... but now that I think about it... he looks more like a cat than a wolf.

His purr was like the roll of drums and his growl like thunder, but when he yelled in wrath it turned the blood cold...
...and indeed small beasts and birds were frozen as to stone, and dropped lifeless often at the very sound.

And just as a reminder of what plays as he drops her...

(by the way, the mind-warping only spanned the length of the staring contest--meaning we got to see what happened outside and inside her mind. He drops her in the water, while we hear yelling in the music, hinting at what part of the vision she is in.)

Here are some sidenotes:

1) Reminder that Charlie said in that one interview that his favorite creatures in Middle-earth were cats and/or dogs (particularly werewolves and Tevildo).

2) When Charlie says that he's excited about the different SHAPES that Sauron takes in the Second Age, and that he himself is excited to explore those things...

We know Sauron takes on different shapes in this era. All I can say is maybe to that. Maybe we're going to do those things. But I'm incredibly excited to explore him doing these things that we know he does.

What different shapes might we see, I wonder.

Yes.

We set some essential groundwork in the first three chapters.

Let us approach Sauron’s ultimate question and finally delve into the meat of this whole thing.

Sauron is Evil.

Galadriel: “One cannot satisfy thirst by drinking seawater.” Sauron: “Then what is it?”

“Why do you keep fighting?”

He knows exactly why Galadriel keeps fighting, and wants her to stop galloping for a moment, realize what has kept her fighting for centuries, and admit the truth. He has already given her the answer to this question several times. Does she keep fighting to avenge her brother, and everyone else she has lost? No. Then, what fuels her obsession?

Recall the showrunners’ statements.

1) Sauron sees Galadriel, and “knows that what she needs more than anything else is to find the evil that has plagued her for so long, and save Middle-earth. So, he self-styles himself as the person that she will trust” (JD Payne, TROP Podcast). When does he ‘self-style’ himself as Halbrand? Before they meet on the raft. In order for it to be a possibility that he did it specifically to make Galadriel trust him, he would have to be aware of her existence before the raft.

2) “Did she jump off the boat because she sensed Halbrand nearby?” (JD Payne, TROP Podcast).

3) “Is her obsession (which character after character in the show tells her is not a good thing)—Is he CALLING her to him?” (Patrick McKay, TROP Podcast).

Let us set this in stone, once and for all. I am 100% certain of this:

Sauron Called Galadriel to Him
