Never Doubt

Here’s a little fact which I’ve said at some conventions but would like some more of you to know.I get a lot of notes and messages with people saying how they doubt themselves or wish they had certain talents. Honestly; you can pretty much achieve anything you want as long as you have a little dash of determination in your coffee every day.

When I was at school my Drama teacher openly told me that I couldn’t act and always cast me as the Stage Manager. I would watch from the sidelines as all my classmates got to perform the play and would make sure their props were ready for them.

While they were all out having celebration drinks on the lawn, I was inside cleaning up the stage.

A few years ago I went back to school and met my Drama teacher. She couldn’t believe what I’d done on YouTube and the places it had taken me.

This is going to sound mad but it was her negativity and doubt that pushed me to improving myself.

I would like to thank her for always doubting me.

I was almost always given side parts by our Drama teacher at high school as well. Never a main role. “There’s no such thing as a small role,” she would tell us…. but it got fucking disheartening after almost five years of never being given anything other than a non-speaking or two-line role. Then, for our coursework, where WE had to do our own performance and have it marked by an external examiner, I *was* one of the main performers. We got the highest marks out of our drama class, I do believe. Fuck the non-believers. There’s nothing like wanting to prove someone wrong to push you into doing your best!
