not to be a downer or anything but being alive in 2024 is experiencing weeks upon weeks of unlimited widespread carnage, death, displacement and destruction, then inevitably coming across something that makes you realize you're just now at the tip of the iceberg. whether or not the prediction is true, the fact that it's even being made by someone with a title like earth systems scientist makes your blood pressure go up just a little bit.

The end point of this scientific conversation seems to be that urgent action is warranted to intervene in this effect specifically so that it DOES NOT become a permanent state of being. I see different scientists emphasizing that urgency in different ways, some more or less hopeful feeling. But ultimately this is a call to action, not a portent of doom. We should work to understand how we can treat it as such.
Now would be a great time to connect with a climate action group or get involved in Citizen Science climate change data work. The faster scientists can sift through large data sets (and for all the dreams of AI companies, massive human cooperation is still the best at this) the faster they can identify, refine, and implement appropriate next steps for us.
It's scary to feel helpless, but we can't each be doing everything. Pick a workspace and hunker down, I guarantee none of us are alone in this feeling.

It's been reported multiple times that Trump is out there encouraging Netanyahu to keep up the bombing while Harris and Biden are working to end it and yet some people dare to say they aren't going to try to get Harris elected and act like that won't directly result in more deaths and violence in this conflict. Palestinians are literally out there right now saying Trump winning - which is what will happen if everyone doesn't get out there and vote for Harris - would be a worst case scenario for them (x). Don't you dare appropriate their struggle to try to justify your failure to do everything in your power to stop the Fascist GOP from getting into office.

All people live in poor tents that do not protect against any kind of cold or rain. We tried in advance to collect a sum for them. We made some tents. We provided them with chews to cover the tent. We must help the remaining before the winter comes and the people drown.
And we must provide them with food cying now, there is no food in the markets, because of the drunking of the crossings. I hope you help me to feed families before the famine occurs
