Tony Stark has a remarkable penchant for prophecy. It’s for this reason Thanos said he was “cursed with knowledge.” This is a nod to Cassandra from mythology who was doomed to utter predictions no one would believe. 

Joe Russo remarked in the commentary for Infinity War that Tony took the fight away from Earth because he “saw a vision of all of his friends dead.” That means, to this day, this vision from Age of Ultron is still an event Tony fears could happen–and is actively trying to prevent it.

But perhaps it’s like what Thanos said at the beginning of the film:

    “Dread it. Run from it. Destiny arrives… all the same.”

No matter how far he runs from it, Tony won’t be able to escape his destiny. 

Do you hear me? There’s NOTHING you can do!
