When discussing Palestine/Israel, “It’s an extremely complicated situation” is always code for one of two things:

“I’m a wolf in sheep’s clothing trying to obfuscate the reality that Israel is a settler-colonial entity engaged in daily terrorism and ethnic cleansing by confusing you and reducing your confidence to speak openly about this topic”

or

“I have no idea wtf I’m talking about”

There is absolutely no in-between

“…because the situation is crystal clear. One of the main successes of Israel propaganda is to convince the world that the situation is complicated. But it’s far from being complicated. It’s probably the least complicated conflict in the world today. And it’s all about, basically, those who have the power, those who oppress and subjugate and tread over the indigenous people of the land, who have been oppressed and subjugated and expelled from the land. And this is what it’s about. The situation here is not very different, other than the way it is perceived in the world and among Israeli society themselves.”

hope for Haiti has Roxanne Gay’s father Michael in their board, he owns GDG, the largest concrete supplier in Haiti. 5% of the company is owned by Patrick Delatour, Haiti’s former minister of tourism, and Michael Gay’s cousin.

By 2011, it had received $1.2 million in no-bid contracts.

Roxanne only disclosed this after a journalist confronted her abt it on twitter.

As an Haitian lemme tell you, that family profited immensely after every natural disaster in Haiti, and did nothing to improve infrastructure, buildings etc that could withstand future natural disasters.

Please do not donate to Hope for Haiti. That money will go to the Gay family and no Haitian life will see improvement by them.

Instead donate directly to families in Haiti or:

Random Acts: Their board is made up of volunteers, not employees. A fantastic org that wants to help.
Project Medishare: Empowering Haitians to provide and receive access to quality health care since 1994. Their programs are community-based and Haitian led.

[Image: tweet by Roxanne Gay (@rgay, verified) reading: As you consider sending money to Haiti do not send to the Red Cross. I like Fonkoze and Hope for Haiti who do a lot of great work on the ground, with efforts led by Haitian people. End description.]
