The poll comes to a close, ‘cut off his tattoo’ in the lead. 

“You all have good taste," the host says with a laugh. "I was hoping you'd pick that one.” The knife is back in their hand when they step towards Shepard. He's watching them, eyes narrowed and wary, and you realize he doesn't know what's coming. How could he? You briefly wonder how it must feel, watching someone with a knife and unknown intentions creep closer, but as the anticipation rises, the thought fades.

Normally it's common sense to avoid random links that pop up in your inbox.

Everything about it screams virus, from the restricted sender, to the jumbled string of letters and symbols that make up the link itself, to the subject line, a simple “gift for you”. Normally, you'd delete it immediately. Maybe report it as spam. But something holds you back. A single line in the message body.

speaking of Wes, here's some more details on the "mask" he's wearing to the meeting ;)

M131 Gag Mask

- 3 distinct pieces: straps, outer mask, and adjustable bit

- the bit can expand while inside the wearer's mouth to fully depress the tongue

- the outer piece has embedded sound absorption technology to keep the wearer nearly silent

- this also makes it more difficult for the wearer to breathe deeply or quickly, but many see that as a bonus feature, since it tends to prevent a struggle

- was designed for criminals to wear during trials and other public events (with the intent of preventing them from speaking out of turn), but has become a standard

- "half" design is the most common

- "full" design is nicknamed "the killer mask" because it's led to multiple cases of asphyxiation. Some sects will still use it for the complete silence it offers

ahahaha I just write when I can, tbh. Even if it's just a sentence over the course of five minutes, I'll write/doodle between workouts at the gym, while in in line or in a waiting room, on the way to work if I'm not driving, while stuff is in the oven, etc

Hanging out at the coffee shop, hoping she just so happened to see someone who looked like they quite literally knew everything, was probably the dumbest plan Sarah had ever decided to stick to.

But what other option did she have? Even Hugo hadn't been able to dig up more info, and she didn't have another hopeful lead. So she'd printed out the forum post Hugo had come across, murder request and all, ordered a coffee, and hunched in a corner, ears sharpened.

It was her fourth morning on this wild goose chase. If you could even call it a chase. Wild goose stakeout?

The first day she'd wasted nearly six hours listening to customers order their lattes. After that, she decided to limit herself to an hour a day, at random times. There was no indication how often the enigma known as Big Brother visited this shop, or when, so it really was just left up to blind luck.

But sometimes, blind luck was all you needed.

Today's random time was five in the morning, right when the place opened, and even a double shot of espresso couldn't fix how badly Sarah wished she'd stayed in bed.

It's important, she reminded herself. It's our best chance.

She could take a nap later. 

She was zoning out, doodling on a napkin and listening to the background noise when she heard it.

“Black coffee for Bas?”

Bas. Sarah sat up straight, a sudden and unwelcome flush of anxiety coursing through her.

Fuck. This was it. She looked up just in time to see a man turn away from the counter, coffee in hand. He was a lanky guy, maybe in his late thirties, with flecks of gray in his brown hair and reading glasses clipped into his practical button-up shirt.

He definitely didn't look like a Neath criminal, much less the kind of guy who'd have a hit out on him. He looked like a college professor for something nerdy and slightly boring, like Greek literature or the history of pottery.

But if this was her chance, she wasn't gonna let it slip away.
