My thoughts about 4.09 - ‘Til Death Do Us Part
This episode is one of the best and one of the worst at the same time.
It is weird. It's very different from any other episode of this show, even different than 'Wake Up'.
And I think the main reason is Jarod.
He has this strange attitude during the whole episode.
It's true. He calls Parker and teases her, but not as usual.
The first thing he does, when he drags Parker down to his former lair filled with Clowns stuff, is a bit out of character. He knows Parker is suffering and he's starting to leave behind his list of clues to make her find out that he actually knew Thomas, but he would never put his freedom in jeopardy just to stay back and watch Miss Parker's reaction when she sees his model of her first meeting with Thomas.
I don't know...
I love the whole clown-thing, that Jarod was already there, dressed up as a clown, I think this is one of the sweetest things he ever did, but it's really a bit too much. And they usually bring cleaners with them, ready to clean up everything Jarod left behind. He was lucky that Parker, Syd and Broots all exited the room, allowing him to get out...
Perhaps he's a bit shattered. The anniversary of Tommy's death affects him too, maybe even more than Parker because he still feels guilty (?).
Then his appearance at the cemetery. God, that is great. Jarod entering Parker's house to take her firing pin...This is sooo cunning!
But this meeting is so weird. Jarod lets Parker telling him so many cruel things. She spits such heavy words on him, he looks so angry when Parker steals his flowers. And yet, he doesn't reply. He doesn't talk and let her spill her guts. He acts as a figurative 'relief valve'. He is Parker's means to a purpose, which is trying to feel better after taking issue with him. Oh, he looks soooo angry.
But he knows that she's not really mad at him, he knows Parker feels very bad and needs him to keep focus. And he knows that Parker hasn't found out that he and Tommy were friends, yet.
It's the first time that Parker shouts at him and Jarod doesn't answer in the same way or with a critical Jarodism...He just wants to pay respect to Thomas' grave.
And when he calls her later, he lets her pout out her feelings. Parker screams as she's never done before. She looks so angry and disappointed at that moment, because she doesn't believe Jarod.
And when she tells him that Thomas isn't a game, Jarod answers with all the calm he still has that he never considered Tommy as a game, because that was not his goal with the two of them. Oh, that's so sweet.
And then, finally, he reveals the huge truth. That he met Tommy before her, that he was his friend. Jarod is so sweet and calm when he tells her.
I think this is *HIS* moment to unload this weight. This is like a liberation, he had never mastered the courage to tell Parker this little secret, he kept this hidden. Jarod feels relieved and they finally start to talk as the two friends they should be. They have these long conversation about Tommy and eventually Parker sees Jarod as a *friend*.
She confesses so many things to Jarod, he's the only one she explains her real problem to. Parker feels bad and keeps seeing Thomas because she knows that she wasn't able to tell him that she loved him.
And when Jarod pushes her to 'let her heart win the war,' Parker follows his advice and then Thomas disappears.
So, Jarod's attitude is weird because he's not actually himself. He suffers for Thomas' death, he was his friend, too.
We see him less than any other episode (left out 'Mr.Lee').
And I wonder what was he doing during the whole Baby-Parker thing...
