HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! I’ve been saving this request since you sent it to me at the beginning of last year, biding my time until today! Have a wonderful day, I’m proud of you for auditioning for your Troupe’s musical, and I hope you enjoy this birthday treat!!
She had a place. A place only she knew about. It lay just under the cliff of Mount Safety, a glade amidst the trees with a small shallow pond, a small but rushing waterfall and a simple tree.
In the summer and spring the water and color refreshed her, in the winter and autumn the solitude and smell of snow filled her up.
But their was one day a year when her place was absolutely sacred. A day just between spring and autumn, when the tree ballooned big, pink blooms, and then the cold light wind stole them from the branches, dropping them with a twirl into the little lake.
On this night, Amy had a sort of a ritual. She’d only discovered the place a year ago, so the thrill of her secret was still fresh and the beauty of the night still completely awed her.
She stood now, ready to be entranced in the night, ankle deep in the soft water. Her eyes closed as she felt the first soft tickle of a pink petal against her nose. She giggled, as the wind picked up and the cherry blossoms fell more freely around her. She took a breath, and began to dance.
Her arms raised lightly over her heads, falling in front and behind her, as she dipped low to the water, skimming the surface with her hand. She took a step and twisted around, the water keeping her planted, moving slow.
She had no music but the pounding of the waterfall.
She had no audience but the petals drifting around her.
She had no partner but the wind.
She was about to complete her slow turn, totally engrossed in the sensation of her movement, when she was rudely interrupted, and thrown off guard.
Her foot slipped, her concentration broke, and she yelped out loud as she splashed into the lake. She shook her head and glared up at her intruder.
Sonic, of course, was laughing.
“Very graceful!” He chuckled, doubled over.
“What are you doing here?!” She asked with a mix of shock and anger. Sonic straightened up, wiping the water from his gleaming eyes.
“Nothing,” He smiled, “Just enjoying the show!”
The wind had slowed and the petals were falling around her more slowly. She sat in the water glaring at him, petals clung to her, and she stood, beginning to pick them off.
“Normally Sonic, I’d be happy to see you and make fun of you, but tonight is kinda… my night.”
“Well, that’s a little rude, don’t you think?”
“I don’t know, didn’t you just laugh at me for falling?”“Touche.”
Amy sighed, now standing and petal free. “Listen, Sonic. I’m serious. Unless you plan on hopping in here and dancing around like a fool, I ask you nicely to please leave?”
Sonic’s arms folded and he met her pleading gaze with a challenging smirk.
“What makes you think I won’t get in there and dance around like an idiot? In fact, I could hop in there and dance around like a super cool idiot.”
“Well, for one, you wouldn’t keep up with me-”
“What?!”“-And two, you’re probably afraid you’re gonna drown or something.”
Sonic’s face suddenly turned serious. “Hey, drowning in shallow waters is completely possible and very probable. Don’t poke fun at serious matters of life and death.”
Amy’s eyes widened in amusement, and her hands flew up by by her head. “Geez, sorry! So are you staying or going?” Sonic bent over and kicked off his shoes in response.
“Nobody makes fun of Sonic The Hedgehog’s dance moves and gets away with it.”
Amy saw his noticeable shiver as he entered the lake, even though the water was till warm from the spring. She took his hands pretty immediately, drawing his attention to her. “Shall we then?” She asked, with a smile.
Sonic felt the soft touch of petals hitting his back, and he saw with sudden clarity how they matched her fur. He saw with sudden clarity the moon shining brightly behind her and how it covered her in soft blue light and how she looked exactly like an angel. Just like a miracle is what she looked like. She was beautiful and suddenly, Sonic was entranced in the night too.
He placed one hand on her waist, and took hold of her other hand with his. She placed a hand on his shoulder and she lead them. She swayed and took slow steps in a long arching circle, and Sonic followed. He twirled her out, releasing her waist as she spun away from him, and then back in again, so that his arm wrapped around her and her backside pressed into his front. Amy looked up at him, turning her neck to see. She laughed. Sonic smiled at her goofily.
“You’ve got some flowers stuck in your hair!”
Sonic leant forward, bursting his nose in her shoulder.
“Leave ‘em,” he muttered, “They’re a part of my charm.” Amy laughed, and he felt her shoulders heave. She turned her neck just a bit further, and kissed his ear. It twitched and hit her nose. She snuffed and laughed, turning full around, reaching her hands up around his neck and pulling him closer. She turned her nose up and kissed under his jaw, closer to his neck. They were still swaying, just like the petals that accompanied them in their dance.
There was no music for them but the pounding of the waterfall.
There was no audience but the petals.
She had no partner but the wind.
Again, happy birthday, I hope it was a wonderful day for you friend
