In the wake of the Michigan shootings, many Democratic legislators are once again debating gun control law.
We all know the reason this is possible, that “Nearly 90% of all Michigan voters support background checks before gun purchases,” and yet universal background checks can’t seem to get through the state legislature:
So, my honest, serious question is this:
What needs to happen in order to shut the NRA down? To overwhelm their lobbying power?
OP, the gun control debate was settled on December 15th, 1791. We have the RIGHT to keep and bear arms.
The government restricting your life less is fascism apparently.
I had actually held out some hope that our lawmakers actually knew the definitions of words, especially the ones that relate to different forms of government and governmental policy, but apparently that was too much to hope for.
Boy howdie! I guess that means Hitler was tossing K98s and MP40s to the Jews as they boarded the trains. How silly of me!
A Democrat weeps for the criminals who will be stopped by normal people.
Not at all surprising.
Mr. Frost, the gun control debate was settled on December 15th, 1791. We have the right to keep and bear arms, end of story.
I've posted this before and I will probably post it again...
@bark-ace56 It says "arms", not "smoothbore muskets". That means there is NO restriction on what I can use (whether it be a Glock 17, a 7-iron or something else) to defend myself or others should such action be necessary.
With that in mind, I have the RIGHT to own whatever firearms I want. The gun control debate was settled on December 15th, 1791 when the 2nd Amendment went into effect. My rights take precedence over your feelings. Remember that then-Senator Joe Biden pushed the "gun-free zone" laws, where most "mass shootings" occur.
Here's the 2nd Amendment:
"A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the People to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
Definitions
Well-regulated = well-organized
Militia = We the People of the United States
Necessary = Important
Free state = A free country
Right = Given by God and cannot be taken by man
Keep and bear = Own, possess and carry
Arms = Any and all weapons one can use to defend themselves or others
Shall not be infringed = Fuck off. We're keeping them.

Isn't it funny how you think that your right to bare arms without any kind of background check is more important than the trauma that an entire school goes through (trauma that stays for life btw) in the USA every couple weeks. At this point non-Americans are starting to think of the USA as one of the most dangerous countries to go to in the western world BECAUSE anyone can waltz into walmart and buy a literal killing machine: hunter, gun enthusiast who knows all the safety procedures, or a criminal. You yourself may not be a psycho kid-killing idiot but who's to say the next person isn't when shootings are pretty much normalised in the US already.
Half the solution is just there at your fingertips: if those in power agreed to enforce background checks before allowing gun purchase that would mean that gun access is less haphazard, but it doesn't stop people (who actually use them for good use) from having access.
Also, in regards to the 2nd Amendment: it was put into effect in 1791. Thats just over 230 years ago. Over two centuries in the past. Technology has advanced; the population has increased; laws have moved around and changed; guns have upgraded from "taking one shot then- hold on lemme reload" to "this gun can literally take a crowd of people's lives in a matter of seconds". Society changes, one day the Amendments will need amending and I believe that day was a few decades ago. The USA is just so focussed on "Republican or Democrat" to realise that pretty much all Americans want to be safe and when it comes to guns, there is an easy way to do that.
My rights take precedence over your feelings. Die mad about it.
It seems you didn’t read my message. That’s alright, maybe the language I used was too emotive.
Let me sum it up for you:
- in terms of the rights of US citizens, the thing of most value is a person’s ability to live freely. Logically (and most other western countries have already figured this out), having tools designed to kill living things (specifically animals) in the hands of convicted violent criminals is counterintuitive.
- the current most viable solution that I (personally) have heard suggestions for benefits those who’s right to live freely is being infringed on, and has no negative impact on non-violent gun users. This suggestion is to simply not allow people with a recent violent criminal record to have access to guns. This won’t impact people who carry arms for legal activities which I’m assuming counts you.
- the second amendment: it’s old. It’s outdated. It no longer effectively represents the wishes of the citizens of the USA. Being what I see as a reasonable person, that to me calls for a re-examination so it can be “polished”.
As for dying mad about it, I won’t be dying anytime soon since I am no longer in the USA, nor do I plan to return anytime soon.
The need for people to defend themselves is NEVER outdated. The 2nd Amendment is just as relevant today, if not more so, than it was in 1791. The fact that you support restrictions proves to the 2A community that you likely want to take our weapons, which is NOT happening. We're keeping them.
Fuck your "reasonable restrictions" and fuck you.

ah yes, the infamous “assault pistol”
why are you cynical bastards bitching about even an inch-length scoot towards the goal of removing these guns from people though. like legitimately. yes it’s not enough. yes it’s functionally pointless. it’s still more than most politicians are daring to actually call for.
@starcrossed-sky We know what happens when only the government has guns. You apparently do not.
1911 - The Ottoman Empire disarms its citizens. In 1915-1916, a million people are murdered by the Ottoman government; most victims are Armenian Christians.
1929 - Stalin disarms the Soviet population. At least 20 million die between then and his death in 1953.
1935 - Mao manages to disarm the Chinese people BEFORE he even takes power. He comes to power in 1948-1945. During his four years in power alone, roughly 20 million people die. Another 45 million starved to death in 1958-1962. He died in 1976, but the bloodshed did not end.
1938 - Hitler disarms the German people. Over the next seven years, at least ten million people die in concentration camps; Auschwitz and Treblinka alone account for roughly a quarter of the death toll. Roughly half of known victims were Jewish.
1960s - Castro disarms the Cuban people. Roughly 100,000 people died.
1970s - The Cambodian people are disarmed. Under Pol Pot, roughly a quarter of the country's population is killed by the Khmer Rouge.
All of these people died happened BECAUSE the government took the people's firearms. Note how most of these were (or still are) communist countries. It's almost like communists hate when people have guns.

don’t let silly little details get in the way of using corpses as props to enslave your citizenry
the us has an abnormally high rate of suicides by gun. not to mentions school shooters/gang violence. making it VERY difficult to procure guns is ideal, but this is something, ig.
@nomorerww Gun laws RARELY target criminals, who proceed to not open them. You want the crime rates to tank? Let law-abiding citizens buy guns. Criminals tend to not mess with someone who might be carrying a firearm. Those who do... let's just say they probably won't commit any more crimes.
Dead criminals don't reoffend.
People who have a problem with those who have firearms are why the 2nd Amendment exists in the first place.

Point: 2nd Amendment
Does the 2A Really Guarantee Individual Gun Ownership? No, It Does Not!
Sandy Hook… Uvalde… Las Vegas… Orlando… Marjory Stoneman… Columbine… Every-damned-day-in-America! How the hell did it come to this? True Fact: we have been bamboozled into accepting a bullshit framing of the Second Amendment. We have it in our heads now that the 2A is a gun *rights* amendment. It’s the exact opposite – there is no right to individual gun ownership – and it’s right there in the…
It says "shall not be infringed", OP. Kiss my ass. 🖕
Fuck you hitlery!
Fuck you, Killary. It says "shall not be infringed". Kiss my ass. 🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕🖕
Getting dead results in even lower test scores. How about a compromise, we go back to the way it used to be, allow staff to carry guns to.protect themselves and others. Then you don’t need a huge security apparatus.
Guns are the problem
@tttttttt8888888 WRONG. People are the problem, not firearms. A firearm is only a tool. When used with the aim of taking life, a firearm becomes a weapon. However, firearms have also been used to SAVE lives.
Exhibit A: A church shooting in Texas was resolved within ten seconds because several good guys with guns happened to be in the right place at the right time. Two innocent people were killed before our good guys put the bad guy down. Had our good guys not been there, the body count would've been higher than two. Dozens of people were uninjured because of our good guys.

What part of "shall not be infringed" is so fucking difficult to comprehend? 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
