Dean Prays to Cas in the Ma’lak Box to Keep Him Company

Dean on Nov 3, 2021, in chuck’s alternative ending Dean’s sitting in reverence, with his eyes closed, when Sam walks in.   This is shown immediately after Dean has prayed to Castiel in purgatory in the present timeline. Castiel isn’t dead.  He’s in a Ma’lak box. Dean knew the terror of facing eternity alone in the dark. and Dean knows that Cas can still hear his prayers. 

Reblog add: When Dean first mentions the ma'lak box in 2021 his discussion changes from things ‘we’ had to do to things ‘I’ had to do. Burying Castiel alive and living every day with the knowledge that he is still trapped, but alive and alert, is a bigger deal for Dean than it is for Sam.

He and Castiel discuss Castiel taking the Mark in the present day to trap Chuck, it’s very blink and you’ll miss it. That was the plan that Sam thwarts by allowing Chuck to get to him. Was Chuck showing the real outcome if they’d gone forward?
