According to mythology and tradition, during the absence of Alexander the Great from Macedonia, enemies and raiders tried to invade the land, while the less numerous men garrison that was left to defend Macedonia began to subside, Women grabbed armory and guns and fought valiantly and drove the enemy out of the land. When Alexander returned and got informed about their courageous achievement he ordered his men to make helmets for the women (Helmets were only worn by men until then) . Katsouli as the helmet is called, has remained in Greece until today and is the main feature of this region as it refers to the ancient greek macedonian helmet.
