If a centaur had wings, would they be on the horse back or the human back? Example/diagram included for clarity. I’ve been going back and forth on this for days

Avatar

distracted by the fact this would give them 8 limbs, so by "centaur is an insect" logic this would be an arachnid

anyway i reckon on the horse back just so their poor spine doesn't have to support the weight of almost a whole horse while airborn

my problem as a writer and as a roleplayer is that I always want characters to do that thing where you hold your hand out, palm to the ground, and kind of tilt it quickly left and right to express uncertainty or a "kinda-sorta"/"yes and no" vibe. but I don't know an official term for this so I always just call it the Noncommittal Hand Waggle

somebody appears to have responded to this post... via the contact form on bandcamp, using the burner email "[email protected]"

It is the sign of the scales. The scales have not settled and they waggle back and forth. Like this like that.

and you know what. I never thought about that before but it's probably right. why the fuck would you tell me this via the bandcamp contact form of all things, and why would you phrase it like you're writing an esoteric treatise encoded via metaphor

Related: at a neuroscience conference I was at once there was a talk on how the "microslippages" against your fingertip when you lightly pinch something are generally enough for you to work out exactly how much force to grip it with to lift it without crushing it or dropping it.

[ID/A tweet by Cliff 🦖 [dinosaur emoji] Jerrison (@ pervocracy) saying "one of the most amazing things a human brain can do is when you shake an opaque bottle and get an idea of how full it is by how the weight shifts. there's got to be incredible math going on under the hood there" /End ID]

What about tosses? What about catching? THATS some serious math right there too

Theres a post somewhere about how the human brain is just constantly doing advanced calculus, even if we dont understand the math, we are still very good at consepsualizing it

bat opens up their little bat wallet to find they are all out of moths. A worthless $100 bill flies out for emphasis

From top-of-frame, a month flutters into the wallet. Confused, the bat looks "up" to see an equally-confused human standing "above" her, holding an open wallet containing a single $100 bill.

Camera rotates to reveal bat has been hanging upside down above a human doing the exact same visual gag and each ruined the other's bit.

Laugh track.

i dont think pink is fake, color is already a construct of biological human perception, why do we suddenly care if this particular brain tingle has a specific objective frequency correlated to it or not

why does the measurable frequency of light have more sanctity than the measurable biological responses in our eyes? are u telling me my short and long wavelength cones AREN'T being triggered in equal measure with comparatively little response from my middle wavelength cones? why is the biology of perception not a part of reality

it's only "fake" insofar as it's a permeable boundary drawn by language around an uncategorizable reality, but come on. it's like saying temperature is fake because "hot" and "cold" are relative terms that depend on touch

When i was like seventeen i needed to rent a suit for some bullshit important thing and there was an employee that took my measurements and at some point she said "many boys your age, they come in here and they have no butt at all. But you have a butt and this must be accommodated for" and at the time it made me self conscious but now that I'm a girl sometimes it echos in my brain as words of affirmation like I'll be getting dressed and just think "i have a butt and this MUST be accommodated for"

this is one of the most influential mathematicians of the 20th century and he would probably be the biggest blog on this site if he were still alive

please come back king

how has no one added the best erdős story

I'm very partial to the escalator story, which I have probably posted in the past, here's a screenshot of it from an MAA website because I couldn't copy it off there.

It's told from the perspective of ronald graham, who was Erdös' friend, a great mathematician, and also known for his athleticism (among other things)

This guy is so integral to mathematics that people have pissing contests over how many degrees of separation they are from having published a paper with him. It's called your "Erdős number".

Look, I'm not saying Erdös was a fellow ADHDer as we can't for sure know his brain makeup postmortem, but

I'm not NOT saying it either.
