whumpee shivering helplessly, uncontrollably as their blankets are pulled back - to tend to injuries, to check bandages, to clean them up or change the bedclothes beneath them. even when they're wrapped back up in their nest again, it takes long moments before they can start to feel properly warm, the chill seemingly sunk through to their bones. only time, or maybe the security and body heat of someone else huddling next to them, can calm their shivers and let them rest once more.
“Help me break in this animal.”
Whumper records a video of them torturing Whumpee brutally and sends it to Caretaker just to taunt them.
The video has no demands nor is it a ransom video; it's there for the sole purpose of remembering Caretaker that Whumpee is at Whumper's mercy and Caretaker will never see them again.
Whumpees who can't stop shivering, whether it's due to fever or the cold, no matter how many blankets are piled on top of them. Their lower lip trembles, their teeth chattering, and every muscle in their body is starting to ache from the repetitive movements.
Caretaker sits or lays right next to them, stroking their hair and holding them close, trying to squeeze some warmth into their bones, their shuddering breaths vibrating against Caretaker's side.
when the caretaker pays extra attention to prevent any unnecessary additional pain to whumpee, no matter how minor. helping a disoriented whumpee into a car and using a hand to guide their head to keep it from hitting the doorframe. cradling their head to the floor when they collapse so the impact isn't harsh. putting a pillow under an injured limb. helping them hold up a cup so they don't strain themself even if they could technically do it alone. just, when there's already been enough damage, enough pain, enough violence, and they want to do anything they can to put a stop to any more, even if all they can do is such small things.
Obsessed with sick cuddles. I love it when people have a bad cold and just long for affection and warmth. I love it when someone is sniffly and tired and feverish and cold, their body begging to be held and comforted. I love it when they lean into the touch of their caregiver/significant other with such pleading affection, they just need to be held. I love it when said caregiver holds them close and lets them rest their feverish head on their chest, whispering sweet nothings into their ear, because the poor thing just doesn’t feel good.
Hand-holding that may be incidental to treating an injury but is still done so tenderly by the attending character- coaxing clenched fingers open in order to examine the injury; keeping a hand steady while tweezing out bits of debris; clasping palm-to-palm while holding a burned hand under cool water; thoroughly rubbing balm into cracked, dry skin; holding the hand still in a firm but gentle grasp when dabbing away blood and cleaning a wound; cradling a hand in their lap while suturing up a laceration; carefully manipulating broken fingers to set them; swaddling frostbitten fingers in a warm, damp cloth; gently squeezing each fingertip in turn to check circulation; turning a hand this way and that to wrap bandages around it; lifting a hand to take a pulse at the wrist; massaging stiff or sore knuckle joints; holding a frigid hand cupped between both of theirs to warm it; and on and on...
When the others don't understand just how bad it is until they see the gruff one being so very careful and gentle with the whumpee
when the team is resting because one of its members is ill enough to warrant bedrest for a few days and they get attacked. whether it's by the Big Bad or just a group of random bandits, now they have to fight. they battle in a circle, attempting to guard the sick character who can't defend herself. i just love the unspoken cooperation of a team who are defending someone with their lives, making sure that the trouble doesn't get too close to her.
The whumper kept the whumpee drugged and practically incapable of thinking- they were easier to manipulate this way. Sure the whumper loved breaking defiant captives, but sometimes, making the whumpee believe that they were back somewhere safe between torture sessions just felt better than having insults hurled at them. The whumpee was just too out of it to realize that the person comforting them wasn’t their friend- it was their tormentor.
Whumpee who breaks themselves out of wherever they're captured, because they know they're alone and nobody will come for them.
Except when they're out, they find out that the Team was planning to come for them, and if they had stayed a day longer, they would've been rescued.
The realization that they're part of something now, where people care about them and are willing to risk themselves to get them back makes Whumpee cry.
currently thinking about a whumpee with lifelong touch aversion and extreme touch sensitivity issues, bound tightly to a chair, whumper comes up from behind them and just leisurely strokes their hair, shoulders, collarbone, cheekbones, runs the back of their fingers up and down whumpee's straining arms. whumpee feeling so much full-body revulsion they can't hardly breathe except to growl out a don't fucking TOUCH me from the bottom of their throat, and whumper just luxuriating in the simple ability to make whumpee squirm without hardly lifting a finger.
weak in the knees for situations where a stoic whumpee allows someone to help them. they don't say a word of acceptance but they don't protest either. Too injured to say no and too tired to deny they need it. Just grudgingly letting a gentle hand guide them to a bed or to wrap a wound. Then a quiet, "thank you." in between sharp breathing as they try not to break down in front of someone else. Love love love shielded vulnerability
Whumpee who, after being rescued, mentally keeps track of all the 'mistakes' they made. They bumped into Caretaker. They broke a glass. They didn't reply. They woke up late.
They're sure Caretaker will punish them. Maybe not now, but they must be keeping track. To punish them all at once.
Their nerves build and build, until they can't take it anymore and start crying. "Please," they beg. "Just do it already."
Caretaker is confused, but once they figure out what Whumpee means, their heart breaks.
They reassure them that Whumpee will never be punished again.
The whumpee had been kept in isolation for all of their stay with the whumper, only seeing the whumper deliver them food and water without saying a word. The whumpee knew that they were desperate for someone to talk to them, desperate to see another face- yet as soon as they were free, they isolated themselves. The whumpee would stay in their room, ignoring anyone that tried to talk to them, and barely even paced around the little room they had.
When whumpee falls asleep on caretakers lap and caretaker stays until whumpee wakes up. They refuse to wake up their friend. They've been through so much, they deserve to rest.
unconscious whumpee who curls toward caretaker in their sleep.
seeking that comfort, that warmth, that presence — even when they aren’t aware of it.
