Baseball Heritage Posts

Run by @ppepohappy. Mariners fan, autistic, any pronouns

Posts must be at least 6 months old and have 1k+ notes (currently, may change). Posts are those that fit the criteria, without judgement. Submissions will open at some point. This blog runs on a queue.

Tagging notes: All active teams will be tagged with their current name. For example, if a post about the Montreal Expos gets reblogged, the tag would be the Washington Nationals. This makes it easier on me. Additionally, college and Little League teams won’t be tagged because there’s not enough posts for that.

American Comedian John Mulaney, allegedly born in 1982, is suspected by many to be a “young immortal,” due to the confused timeline in many of his stories, as well as some of his mannerisms. In his latest Netflix special, “Kid Gorgeous,” Mulaney describes a hypothetical scenario in which one comes across baseball legend Joe DiMaggio in their childhood bedroom. However, he describes this so-called hypothetical with just enough detail that one might suspect he’s speaking from personal experience. DiMaggio didn’t “die” until 1999, when Mulaney was allegedly seventeen years old. But what if – and I must ask the reader to follow me down this rabbit hole for a minute – DiMaggio is himself an immortal, and was forced to publicly fake his death, since he was too famous to just disappear. What if, holding the secret of immortality himself, he chose to pass it on to someone worthy? This has led me to one conclusion, and one conclusion only: at some point in history, DiMaggio visited Mulaney in his childhood bedroom and taught him the secret of immortality, but Mulaney chose not to invoke this power until later in life, possibly to avoid suspicion. In this essay I will

via Mitch Baird:   “We were witness to something beautiful today. These two men are the same two men who were in that picture that went viral. Only in that picture, the gentleman on the right was wearing red face and feathers and angrily screaming at Robert Roche on the left. Today this man came up and asked for the forgiveness of my mentor and all those present. True to form, Robert graciously forgave him and listened to what he had to say. This baseball fan used my megaphone to address the wrong in how he acted previously. I watched my hero become an even more honored and cherished elder in one moment. This is the moment they shook hands and peace was made. I’m blessed to have been witness to this. — with Bee Schrull in Cleveland, Ohio.”

Never give up hope that people can change.

Heads up guys.  Body shaming doesn’t just happen to women.  Recently, baseball player Prince Fielder stripped down for ESPN’s Body issue and here are the comments that accompanied.  Now, I will acknowledge that these are all male contributes, but it’s still shining a light on fat shaming for men, and how athletes (and anyone who poses nude) are socially expected to be perfect.

I’m not going to downplay the amount of shit women get on their bodies, but I would like to point out that this made news today.

Props to someone for bringing this up because I know it’s been a “popular” topic of discussion among some of the guys I work with. Some are on the side of good for him, and he’s “actually in better shape than I thought,” while others are disgusted and appalled that ESPN would let him in the issue.

Not for nothing, but if Prince was a woman, and the criticism was the same, people would be outraged, but for whatever reason, since people are making fun of a dude because he’s big, it’s almost more socially acceptable. I’m glad that there are people who see it both ways, that it’s wrong to do to both men and women.

I for one and really happy ESPN included Prince on the Body Issue, and I’m glad some people realize that shaming him is exactly the same as shaming a woman if she was comparably his size.

Either way, it’s wrong.

Either way, don’t do it to anyone whether it’s a regular guy or girl, or whether it’s a star like Prince Fielder.
