I love how Mina knows what Van Helsing is doing as soon as he starts looking around, and when he points out the ground they’ll take she’s just “ah yes, higher ground with good cover and visibility, limited exposure to enemy attacks. Ideal.” This girl is a STRATEGIST and this entry is her overseeing her men.

Something that makes the "Arthur and Jack are married" thing more fertile ground for queer reading is that Jonathan doesn't mention either of them having children.

We have no idea when they got married but it's been seven years, they're older than the Harkers, and have no children, unlike the Harkers.

You know, the wild thing is that Jonathan scared the armed guards WITHOUT having his knife out yet.

He walked to and jumped on the cart and used his two hands to throw the box over, and THEN Mina says he took his knife out to pry the box open.

Why turn Dracula into a "tragic vampire that needs love to heal" when Mina Harker is right there

Aside from the cliche that the sympathetic monster must always be a man needing a woman that is

Jonathan and Van Helsing must have looked terrifying to whatever Romanian village the crew went to after killing Dracula

Van Helsing's face and torso splattered with the blood of the three sisters

Jonathan's face splattered with Dracula's blood and his clothes damp with Quincey's

So apparently Jonathan Harker is described as being “full of energy”, at least four times...

Mr. Hawkins: “He is a young man, full of energy...”

Seward: “He is uncommonly clever ... and full of energy.”

Mina: “He was never so resolute, never so strong, never so full of volcanic energy, as at present.”

Seward: “Last night he was a frank, happy-looking man, with strong, youthful face, full of energy, and with dark brown hair ... His energy is still intact; in fact, he is like a living flame.”

And this all makes me think DAMN can you imagine... Being a high-energy person by nature and getting stuck in a room for months with nothing to do but write in your limited-page journal. Of course he lost it. I know he was like a husky with separation anxiety trying to chew through brick and stone. No wonder he started scaling up and down the walls!

(And while he was always energetic, after he snapped out of his brain fever he got even more energetic, like a volcano, according to Mina. And then after the blood baptism his energy became stronger like a living flame according to Jack, which at this rate sounds like untold amounts of adrenaline.)

I think Mina fits in with the dry men of science more than Jonathan does, despite the fact that he's also a nerd and intelligent. She's on Van Helsing's side along with Seward every single time a plan needs to be formed. She'll even be more active than Seward during those instances. At those times Jonathan will either depart for a task or not participate and let his wife take charge. Jonathan more prominently is consistently full of emotions and is expressive of them without thinking about how he may look. He shares this trait most with Renflield. Several times he needs to be sat down and be talked to with logic by Van Helsing or Mina until his emotions settle, be it anger or despair. Even post-brain fever, when upset he collapses on sofas, groans a lot, falls on his knees, shows extreme physical changes.
