Raven and Golden, August 2024
Faramir and Eowyn found each other while waiting for the great battle, worried, unable to fight because they had already been hurt by the great evil. They helped each other heal, both physically and emotionally. We don't know enough about their cinematic versions, as we barely get to know them in the book, but it's enough to love them unconditionally. It took me a long time to find a good reference pic (even this one might be a montage of different stills?) but then, the colouring came easily and beautifully.
“I will not let the White City fall, nor our people fail.”
“Our people.”
Eowyn of Rohan and Arwen Undomiel
THE LORD OF THE RINGS TRILOGY (2001 - 2003) dir. Peter Jackson
Viggo Mortenson as ARAGORN in THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING — dir. Peter Jackson (2001)
“Thus Aragorn for the first time in the full light of day beheld Éowyn, Lady of Rohan, and thought her fair, fair and cold, like a morning of pale spring that is not yet come to womanhood."
The poster for "The Two Towers" that I drew a long time ago
broke: Boromir was corrupted by the ring because he was weak of heart
woke: Boromir was corrupted because his heart was full. full of love for his brother, for Gondor, for Minas Tirith. Does that make his heart weak? Does a heart motivated by passions and the desire to help others make it weak? Is it wrong and evil to be weak? friendly reminder, the way Sauron deceived Boromir was not by promising him wealth, nor power, nor his own safety- he thought he would be strong enough to defend a whole city and defeat Sauron. Boromir had a heart that was neither weak nor strong, but both at the same time- his heart was full.
I think the absolute worst crime committed by the original LOTR movie trilogy was only putting the scene where Eomer finds Eowyn after the Battle of Pelennor Fields in the extended editions. Karl Urban at his absolute fucking best
You don’t even need
audio. You can HEAR his
anguish from his face.
Beep boop! I look for accidental haiku posts. Sometimes I mess up.
THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RETURN OF THE KING (2003) dir. peter jackson
Viggo Mortenson does not get enough credit for delivering lines like "not idly do the leaves of Lorien fall" with a complete sincerity and gravitas
The whole lotr trilogy works because every single person on set and behind the scenes treated it seriously and with gravitas. It was completely earnest and I don't know if anyone making movies today has that in them anymore.
one of my favorite parts of the director's commentary is Jackson talking about Sam's "that there is some good in this world" speech. he talks about how when they were writing it, it was like "is this too much? is this too sentimental? are people going to be cringing in the theater?" but at the same time, it was necessary to keep the audience emotionally invested bc TTT was ending on such a dark note. and he knew, KNEW, it was all going to come down to Sean Astin's delivery; there was no wiggle room, he had to nail it. and then, of course, he did.
THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE TWO TOWERS (2002) dir. Peter Jackson
"complete" pack! (idk maybe I'll do other characters but the initial plan is done)
It was fun to draw!
