"Hey, jeffe, what you workin' on?"

Bundled in a sweater against the 'nighttime' setting of Normandy's thermoregulator subsystem, Joker turned to answer Vega and caught an eyeful of the man's massive pecs. They hove into view, unexpected as an iceberg to the titanic of Joker's self-control, and in a ham-fisted attempt to avert catastrophe, he turned back to the display he'd been studying and groused, "Put a shirt on before you put someone's eye out with those things, would you?"

James only snorted and leaned in a little closer to examine the display-- so close Joker could practically feel the heat radiating off his muscular frame. Warmth crept up the back of Joker's neck in response and he felt not only his ears and face go hot, but the rest of him too.

So much for needing a sweater.

“Joker, listen. We have to go.” Tribute to the best pilot of the universe, Jeff “Joker” Moreau. One of my many favourite npc’s in Mass Effect trilogy. Was drawing this while listening An End, Once And For All and I was like sobbing most of the time damnit.. Being one of Shepard’s best friends it must feel absolutely horrible to see her stay behind and leave her behind, twice, for the sake of everyone and everything.

Hey, Mass Effect Tumblr... I'm super big Joker fan & I'm on the lookout for one of the SR2 ball caps from around 6 or 7 years ago... The navy ones with the curved bill. I have the flat billed cap the store currently sells, but it's not quite right... His ingame one is much more like a baseball cap, whereas the current one is a trucker cap. Frustratingly, the accuratevones aren't available.

If you have one you might part with, please hit me up!

Holiday Harbinger Gift Exchange

For @lyrishadow!  Something sweet and a little bit silly, to start the new year bright <3

Title: The Right Fit Relationship: mshenko, Joker/EDI Rating: T (maybe - Shepard’s a flirt) Summary: Shepard isn’t the sort of guy who wears a suit; they never fit right anyway.  But the wedding’s going to start any minute, and he’d promised to behave on their special day.

Bagog’s Mass Effect Fic Directory, 2015

I write a lot of Mass Effect shorts that get posted once and then never again. Been asked a few times to make a Master List of all my fanfic stuff by year, so here we go!

++

Original Works

New Skill Set Post-war, Shepard confronts his trauma and masters all new skills to be a good father for his and Kaidan’s son, Sean. Fluffy, sweet, and domestic.

An Expert on Bad Dreams Unconventional Swim Instructor

Post-War Parallels A series in which the ‘same story’ is alternated between a universe where Shepard did not survive the war, and one where he did. Angsty, bitter-sweet lovey dovey, and angsty, respectively.

One New Message Waiting Someone’s Waiting Backlogged Messages

N7 Hoodie - Kaidan sorts through Shepard’s belongings after he has died. Short, angsty.

Ask Box Fills

I am always super stoked to fill any random request that comes into my ask box, and in 2015 I posted a lot of Ask Memes. Below are the meme’s filled according to character and then prompt. They range in length from 100-1000 words.

Thread-Meddling

Sometimes I see a someone else’s headcanon and just start writing.

More below the cut!

Long ago, I wrote a looooooot of Mass Effect fanfic. Since the Mass Effect fandom is sort of waking up, I figured I’d repost these if people were shopping for fics.

You Carry Home

A small mshoker drabble.

++

There was humor in it, maybe, the way Shepard realized he had fallen in love with Joker. The moment he felt it, he wondered how he would convey the revelation with panache and humor if he ever told Jeff about it. It was like an immediate proof of his feelings.

It was funny, insofar as Shepard could see. He’d done it a hundred times: looked up from the alien surface of a distant world into alien clouds, and piercing the clouds in a dive, the Normandy. Radio Joker, confirm coordinates, wait for the Normandy.

“Shepard to Normandy, Joker?”

“Reading you, Commander.”

“We’re ready to come home.”

“You got it, Shepard. Home’s coming to you.”

He had seen that ship drop down through the clouds and felt like home was coming to him each time. It was the rush of surviving another mission, the need to be surrounded by safety, and it was the feeling of movement, escape.

And Jeff.

Always behind the helm, waiting in space, carrying home on his shoulders: Jeff Moreau. Shepard supposed he must’ve thought about Joker each time the Normandy appeared—the first voice he’d speak to and the first face he’d see back on the ship.

This was different, though.

Home had been the furthest thing from his mind. Jeff had been far from his thoughts. Everything except the step ahead of him, the space to duck for cover behind a shipping crate, and his heat sink capacity was unimportant right now. There

Artillery blazing, bullets sailing past his face as he activated his comms:

“Joker! The whole mission’s fubar, we need an out, now!”

The radio was silent. All communications jammed.

“Come in, Normandy! Joker?”

Silence.

How many times had he looked up to the clouds, and there was the Normandy, appearing like the only solid thing from the sea of clouds. And he saw it again, looking up at the sudden boom high in the distance: the Normandy. Home, come for him when it was as far from his mind as possible.

“Shepard! Can you hear me? Normandy to Shep—”

“Jeff!”

“Shepard! It’s good to hear your voice.”

And Shepard knew at that moment: he was in love with Jeff Moreau.

He felt it in the pit of his stomach, beneath and beyond the fear gripping his guts.

The sight he had seen a hundred times, transformed. Now he felt a chill looking up: afraid for the ship. Afraid for Jeff. If you make your home a place that has to come find you, you risk home every time you leave it.

The artillery immediately focused on the ship. Shepard was able to pop out from his cover and repel the forces that were advancing on their position.

“Jeff, the artillery’s too hot, get back in orbit!”

“Negative, Shepard. Artillery’s not a problem. Prep for evac.” Joker’s voice sounded hoarse, quavering.

And Shepard was so afraid. Afraid for the man he loved, he realized. What a war he’d found himself in, where even the good moments were packaged together with fear.

But no. That wasn’t it. Fear had been the only feeling Shepard had listened to for so long. How long? When he looked up and saw home descending through the clouds, had he always thought of Jeff? Now the fear wouldn’t let him deny it, any more.

Before Shepard could respond, give Jeff an order that would put him safely back in space, the ship was overhead. He felt it: the pull to go home, the rest, the hour without fear. And one man had brought him here again, the only man Shepard would trust his fears and his heart to.

Jeff’s voice:

“Time to come home.”

Shepard laughed.

I loved all of the background conversations. They made the world feel a little bigger.

The one that always stood out for me though, was the Asari huntress talking about how the farm girl - Joker’s sister.

The thought of Shepard walking past and overhearing parts of this conversation, not putting two and two together, then later going off the rails at Joker saying he’s not taking the war seriously? Yeah.

From the moment I heard these lines in ME2, I knew I had to make this video as a tribute to Mass Effect (and these two). I get emotional whenever I think about Shepard and Joker being a constant throughout the trilogy. The collection of memories is a bunch of moments I'd like to think happened once the camaraderie kicked in; the playfulness, the hanging around together in the cockpit, the two umbrellas Shepard promised him... and then the final salute before the Crucible. Plus, my hc for a post-destroy ending.

Headcanon: Bad Decisions with Commander Denial

It’s Joker that says it, a week into their geth cleanup operation, because of course he’d been watching them and like it even matters because Alenko is about as subtle as an exploding spaceship, anyways.

(This is a simile he will regret, very soon.)

That it’s Joker is a surprise, because Shepard and Lt. Moreau are not particularly close (and oh what I would have given for a choice that allowed her to nix ‘Joker’ because she’s that uptight with most of her crew in ME1.) Shepard has lived her entire post-Akuze career by the book, keeping her eyes ahead and her mouth shut, and Joker says the things about the brass and the mission I think she secretly wishes she could say. His casual insubordination irritates her in a way she would never admit to herself might be jealousy.

So they aren’t friends but Joker considers Kaidan a friend, or at least a guy who can get in a few good ones when shore leave has loosened him up a bit, so he’s the one that brings it up, one quiet shift when Shepard’s in the cockpit observing the absolutely nothing interesting that’s come up on sensors for hours.

“You know, I knew a guy in flight school.”

“Hmm.”

“Great pilot, solid scores. Not the best, cause, y'know, I was there,” he grins, “but he was looking at any ship in the fleet after graduation.”

“Does this story have a point, Moreau?”

“So the point is that the guy had a pretty bright future, yeah? Right up until the administration found out about him and his flight instructor. See, he was good, but she was a legend. ‘Attack formations named after her’ kind of legend.” He laughs humorlessly. “You know where he is now? Running cargo shuttles in Vancouver. Because the funny thing is, even though the whole thing is supposed to be his superior officer’s responsibility, somehow she’s still serving starside while he moves office supplies.”

“Subtle, Lieutenant, but I think I catch your drift.”

“Do you, Commander? Because the Normandy is the best ship I’ve ever flown and probably the best I ever will. This crew was handpicked to serve on the most important vessel in the Alliance Navy. Maybe you have better things ahead of you, running errands for the Council or saving space daycares or something, but for some of us, like maybe the some of us with magic brain powers that no one at Command understands or trusts? There’s not a lot of room to go anywhere but down.”

“You’re out of line, Lieutenant.” She bites off the words. Kaidan had notified her of his transfer request that morning, the most he’s spoken to her in weeks. She’d been delaying her response until after Alchera.

“Unsaid Things” is a little thing I did using audio sourced from the games that I cut and spliced together. I felt like it could use some visuals, so I busted out the iPad and made this thing. I worked really hard on it, and I think it’s kinda fun. I drew him with my Shepard, Bailie, because like why not and whatever. I tend to envisage Jeff as moderately smoother than, uh, this, but I had to work with what I could scrounge together. “Finally trying to get serious and just say it, dammit” seemed to kind of work for what I could cut together. I can safely say if I had the ability to hire actors, I would write a romance between them a little differently. And have done/am doing if reading that is a thing you like to do. I know they’re in ME2 era clothes but… honestly era doesn’t matter too much, and ME2 fatigues are way quicker. Forgot his sleeves were black though, and the Cerberus logo a bit later on. Ah well. What can you do, eh. Tried to get this out for Valentine’s Day but was a few hours too late.  For all those whose ships never officially set sail. I try not to beg for reblogs and stuff too much but I worked real hard and would love this to get out there for people who might enjoy it. Thanks and stuff.
