Do you think Astarion would even dye his hair/get piercings/etc.?
Thinking about Spawn!Astarion specifically, but AA could be interesting too. Personally I think he would try a bunch of wild stuff with his appearance post-game because he doesn't know what to do with autonomy and is kinda acting like a teenager moving out of home for the first time and going wild because they don't know themself that well. Maybe he'd regret them or maybe he'd like that he looked different from what he was before and he had control over it- even if he obviously can't see himself in the spawn ending. Just some random thoughts

Ooooh I love the concept of altering your own appearance as an act of autonomy. As someone who has had some fun with hair dye (and has a couple tattoos), I relate hehe. And I can see that being empowering for someone like Astarion, who's had so little control over his own body. And how even those mistakes and missteps with those changes are empowering in their own way! For me personally, I think I see him acting somewhat the opposite? What I mean is, as a spawn, he can't even see his reflection. I don't know if it would hit the same, for me, if I dyed my hair or cut it and couldn't even see it. And I know, Tav/Durge/others could maybe assist or draw him or come up with workarounds. But with Astarion not encountering his own image just casually throughout his day-to-day, I'm not sure if dye and piercings would empower him as much. I'm inclined to think he might fixate more on embroidering his clothes to look super cool! Or finding badass capes and whatnot to add to his adventuring ensembles. Now AA on the other hand....I think getting to see his own reflection after so long is such a shock to his system, he spends an obscene amount of time just staring and admiring himself. For a good long while (a few centuries even), I think he's so tickled by being able to do that, and enamored with his own image as it is. But given enough time, assuming he doesn't just get stuck in that mindset forever, staring at himself so long, I think he'd start to see things he'd want to try out or change.
I almost think he'd be more inclined to try the cock piercings first hahaha.

Awww thank you lovelies 💜 This is so sweet. I added the synopsis of each one, and the thing I'm most proud of as a way to self-reflect. The first three are BG3, and the last two are Fallout 4 fics.
1. Midnight Chimes - Astarion x Cursed! Tav, Rated E for intermittent smut, ongoing longfic
It’s easier for Astarion to believe Naomi tastes so sweet because she was his first. Easier to ignore the fact that every undead in vague proximity yearns for the same blood that’s sated him night after night. Easier to pretend her music is arcane as any other bard’s, and not divine enough to wake corpses from the dirt. Easier to pretend Naomi is simply a bard, and not something more akin to a siren. One that's slowly realized she's not just another sailor, after all. Easier to bury the fact that he's already stupidly in love with her. Like she wouldn't just raise that out of the ground, too. A curse rears its head. A devil comes calling. Astarion fights for his freedom from Cazador. He and the rest of their merry little band fight to save Tav from the doom she feels she's fated for.
I'm really proud of how I've made Naomi's bardic magic/nature a tangible element in the plot and general vibe of this fic. Sound and silence feature really prominently, even in the connection between Naomi and Astarion.
2. Blood in the Mortar - A!A x Evil Vampire Bride Tav, Rated E for Smut, oneshot
“I wanted to see you right where you belong,” Astarion whispers, the sound as sheer as the lace he wrecked. “So beautiful on your throne.” It started on Naomi’s knees, this new life of passion and pleasure unbridled. Astarion didn’t know he’d be hers, just as much as she’d be his, when he bit her thrice, bled her dry, and gave her just one drop of his ascended blood. In which ascended Astarion is a slightly softer service dom, and Tav is his blood bride. Their bond as bride and sire doesn’t only bind, but blends, creating a link that runs deeper than the one they shared through the tadpole. Tav is a terror of her own renown, and together, they build an empire of bone and blood.
I'm most proud of my characterization in this fic. I felt like I had a chance to turn expectations on their head a bit with showing how Naomi is just as depraved as her sire, and how the bride/sire bond has only served to enable both their carnal impulses.
3. Dhampir Dreams - Spawn Astarion x F! Tav, post-game breeding smut/pregnancy kink
Tav saw beauty in Astarion he couldn’t have seen himself, even if he had a reflection to gawk at. She made love with a man who never thought he could have anything near it. Made all his red dreams come true, and then said: go on, make new ones, in whatever color you like. Astarion never thought about being a father. Not before her. Or: an angsty-turned-horny character study about the pale elf and his thoughts on creating new (un)life.
I'm proud of myself for stepping outside of my comfort zone and writing my first generic Tav piece. This is also one of the more specific kinky pieces I've written, and I'm really happy with the way I portrayed and considered the roots of that within Astarion's character.
4. We Never Go Anywhere Nice - Deacon/MacCready/F!Sole OT3, three-part horror/adventure story with overtures of polyamory, Rated T
Deacon, Natasha, and MacCready investigate a lead in a case of several missing ghouls and find themselves spending the night in a house hiding secrets in plain sight.
I'm most proud of myself for telling a somewhat succinct little adventure that could've plausibly been a side mission within the game itself.
5. No Rest for the Wicked - Deacon/MacCready/F!Sole OT3, oneshot, Rated T
Deacon gets it, he thinks. MacCready and Natasha are in love with each other. A kind of crazy, end-of-the-world, burn down bridges sort of in love with each other. And they’d be fine enough on their own without him. Right? “So, let me get this straight,” Deacon asks him. “You’re begging me to sleep with your girlfriend?”
This is the first fic I posted to AO3. I'm proud of the fact that I posted at all, and that it's still something I can feel proud of at all even with time and distance. I think I succeeded in portraying the characters and all the ways they long for healing (and seeking that in each other).
