I would normally never be happy that my PC is completely fucking out of commission. But I am hearing horror stories about the new Witcher 3 update CDPR keeps trying to constantly fix shit I just heard that they had a 50 GB hot fix. So hopefully by the time I’m ready to go and I can jump back into that shit they will have figured out their problems and I will be blessed with the beautiful updated game.
But also if anybody who is currently playing the updated game can give me some cool differences they are noticing or a fun thing they are doing I need to live vicariously through people who have access to it right now 😭
Abt the racism over the show: personally I have a huge belief that it has to do with the games, too. A lot of people use the whole "accuracy to the books" shtick but most of the fans complaining are actually fans from the games & there are, like, NO PoC in the games. Mix that in with a fantasy where you can be a typically masculine guy going around fighting things & sleeping w tons of women, and you now have a series catering to a specific type of young male gamer. Keep in mind (cont)
Okay, so I actually have been thinking about this for a long time.
Now mind you, when I talk about the games and gamer fans rn I'm not talking about a lot of the "fandom" games content because most of it is really disconnected from the actual games and is really more strongly built out of fandom characterization and headcanons. Which is honestly super cool and it's a interesting subsection of the fandom but that's to talk about or get asked another time.
I agree with most everything you've said here (although I will say the show is very different from the books in many ways -- and there are critiques to be had but seemingly the loudest and most popular people all tie them back to race -- also on tumblr microagressions and exclusion is more popular than the blatant racism seen on other platforms). I also want to add it’s well-known there’s ties to white supremacy circles of TW3 fans. More on that here.
Long discussion below
I’m a little early, but here is my entry for @thanedd-ball! Keira develops pain from her fractures. Lambert makes a special night for her. ✨
Thank you @fangirleaconmigo for being my sensitivity reader!

No cause I have a genuine question I’m suddenly wondering about. Why do people get so upset that the show changes things from the books but they don’t seem the same level of upset about the games. Like don’t you consume different forms of media for different purposes and if they were all the same it would be kind of boring? Like they’re both adaptations of the same universe 🤔
@tinymacaroni This is a really good point! I looked it up and it seems like the creators from the beginning have been saying that it’s not a one to one adaptation but it’s more about the spirit of the books but I could definitely see why with them talking about Easter eggs they’ve put in and book quotes they’ve used why some people might assume they are trying to re-create the books 1:1. Sapkowski getting more involved in season 2 I think definitely helps to keep the spirit of the books more alive in the show than it otherwise would be.
I also think the games taking place long after the Canon and changing the end of the books does have a really big impact on why people don’t say it’s “destroying the spirit of the Witcher” like they do with the show (slight exaggeration 😆). I also think because the games change the inherent relationships of so many characters especially Triss to almost seem unrecognizable to the books it also creates further separation. Like the games and books sometimes feel like they take place in alternate universes while the books and show feel more connected and therefore are subjected to more criticism.
I’m honestly having difficulty thinking of many 1:1 adaptations of a book to a live action format. So I went into the show knowing it would be very different because that is just how the media is and they also are telling the story in a very different time in our society. So some of the analogies or characters are slightly changed or updated to reflect the times we currently live in. The big example I always like to bring up is how they took out Dandelion’s misogyny and really changed Jaskier’s character from the books.
But yeah I think the points you brought up are probably some big reasons people have. In my head I always think of like Howl’s moving castle and how different the book and movie is but how much I love both of them because even though they are different they both bring really awesome things to the table and that’s how I view the show and books for The Witcher.
So I’m case y’all don’t know:
CDPR just announced a new game!
And maybe this is just me but the medallion reminds quite a bit of a lynx…possible new school? 👀
Besties can we please figure out how to get the Witcher Wiki to separate the games and books? Like damn they are so different you literally can’t compare the lore it’s outright contradicting half the time if you try 😭
Okay okay let’s take a little fandom poll
Fuck, Marry, Kill:
Book, Game, and Show Geralt
Any and all answers are welcome!! This is in good fun so don’t get too serious with it
For my own answer I would say:
Okay okay let’s take a little fandom poll

The reason that Eskel reacted to aggressively to Ciri is because years before (when Geralt was not there he was with some bard or some sorceress it doesn’t fucking matter because Geralt was not there) Eskel had a girl he took in. She had been cursed by the Black Sun and hunted within an inch of her life. He took her to Kaer Morhen and he played knight. Eskel tried to reach her how to be a Witcher but she wasn’t —- she wasn’t strong enough and one day her magic lashed out and scarred Eskel and she died from overwork and overuse. Because Eskel decided to play knight she died. So when he saw Ciri there —- all he could think of was Deidre. And another Witcher leading a girl to her death.
