im legit so heartbroken right now. Fuck you Aeria
time to say goodbye to the only good Bard class in anything ever.
legitimately.
the only bard class that actually was like ‘hey bards are supposed to be performers, right? musicians mostly?’ and ran with it.
the only bard class to set itself apart from other classes not by being a jack of all trades, but by being the musical fly in the ointment.
eden eternal bards were equipped with guitars as their weapon. all their attacks are magical music notes. Each party-boosting and enemy-dampening spell has its own unique little musical riff. The bards in this game also adhered to the kind of extreme versatility you’d expect in bard classes:
like mages, bards had at least one good aoe attack: but bards could cast it instantly, and it also had dot damage, lowers enemy defences, AND STACKS UP TO 3 TIMES. This one attack “burning metal” is exemplary of what eden bards had at their disposal
Everything about eden bards was fast, unlike the other healer classes, and unlike the magic damage classes. Bards had the basic good heals of all healer classes, but they also had quick-cast healing buffs that lasted longer than priests (the starter and main healer class), stacked, and affected entire parties at once.
Eden bards were good at being any sort of support class you could imagine (main healers, backup healers, debuffers, buffers, they did it ALL), but they were also a lot of fun and survivable enough to get you through solo play should you choose. Hell, I didn’t even play bard a lot (kait almost constantly played it so even though i was familiar with the class’s skills and stuff, her presence constantly made it clear how great the class was), sticking to trying to unlock warlock, running around as mage and illusionist and dabbling in engineer... but even I know how unique and viable the eden bards were.
and the fact that no other game has come close to the kinds of shit eden did with its bards (what i would argue is the root of what bards should be) is frustrating and mind-boggling.
