1.) The reason why I think people are so obsessed over "changing the bad guy" is because they want to be able to matter to someone enough that the person changes their whole personality for them. In a way its creepy as fuck. They want to know that they have the power to change people but they do it for weird and toxic reasons. They see a bad thing/person and want to feel like they are enough of a reason for that person to change which ends up with either parties getting abused/abusive
People shouldnt have to change for someone else. People shouldnt have to be better for someone else. They should be better because they want to be and that they have to want to be better. People should be better for the sake of being better. And the fact that so many people have this fantasy of changing a bad person, it doesnt feel like they’re doing a good deed. It feels like they’re doing a passion project and its GROSS
NO ONE should ever feel like they HAVE to fix another person. NO ONE should ever have to mold anyone into what they think is “better”. NO ONE should see a toxic wastedump and bring it to theirselves to clean up the mess when they’re clearly unskilled to do so. Its like seeing someone go to Chernobyl and think planting a few trees will fix the radiation
Seriously, if you’re writing one of these stories where the hero “changes” the villain and you present that as something people should always try to do, I hope you get your fingers jammed in a deli slicer.
