Question for the viewers: When was the last time you saw a fanfic with a theme?
last year (ish?), reading a handful of very short xmen-fanfics by Duck_Life, particularly their scott summers centered things. Usually themes surrounding identity (its fragility, confusion, all that second-guessing yourself jazz), character-focused stuff that isn't covered in comics anymore.
but they're definitely the exception to the rule, and the only one I could think of off the top of my head.
#fanfic#writing#writing things#also now i'm concered with the replies to this that people don't know what themes are#theme isn't a story or a hook#it's the reoccurring element#the point#the overhanging stuff#a short story about dark beast getting the drop on scott and casque of amontillado-ing him follows a theme of identity#here obtusely with dark beast's relation to beast#and how beast has gotten so horrific as to be indistinguishable from his 'dark' alt dimension self#which used to be the hinge on which their differences depended#and scott's struggling issues with being gaslit by everyone for all his life having an influence on his own identity sure#and his desperate grasping for concrete surety#surity?#certainty within the world#and how he's 'supposed to be' able to differentiate beast from dark beast#on and on and on i need to stop writing a novel there's so much to say and i'm going nowhere
