i was a bit confused about this dialogue when i first read it like “Wtf did mettaton go into the dark world somehow” but no it actually is just a fancy vague way of saying he was drawing something….

so  since in this universe mettaton cant have his robot body (since alphys is just a school teacher she probably wouldn’t be making robots and whatnot) he just draws it on like ms paint on the library computer……. :( mettaton………..
