y'all know i'm a gay lalo truther, but i really love the idea that lalo's sexuality is an open secret in the cartel. he's cartel royalty, so people pretend it's not true, which is just another reason gus hates him, since they used his love for max as punishment and motive.

i also think it's highly plausible that one of the reasons lalo is so obsessed with pleasing hector is to compensate for his sexuality. we all know hector is homophobic and that def added an extra level of abuse. lalo is left trying to make his tio happy enough to accept him, even if he isn't actively thinking of it like that.

i don't think lalo views his childhood as traumatic. i'm sure he just laughs at the abuse from hector and anyone else involved. in fact, he likely says he's grateful for it because it made him the man he is today. lalo is def the type of person that's like "i turned out fine!"
