Some Palmistry
PALMISTRY THROUGH IMAGES BECAuse if you’re like me you learn better by looking at it than reading. Here’s the basics! Get to learning yourself and others!
A peek into my book of shadows. Mine is a combination of personal journaling, witchcraft, and art!

Bird Symbolism
So I was looking out my window and saw two birds and the idea of making a list of symbolism associated with types of birds came to mind. My mom always taught me if you see an animal -especially if they are doing something out of the ordinary- you should take it as an omen. So here’s a list of some basic birds, some of the associations are personal but I hope you like it!
Blue Jay-the truth will be revealed, high energy, playfulness, clarity and communication.
Cardinal-hope, joy, good health, some associate them with angels or deceased love ones, passion and warmth.
Crow-often associated with magic and witches, transformation, power, intelligence and mystery.
Duck-friendships, new friends, happiness, good fortune and protect against negative energies “water off a ducks back” :)
Eagle-power, leadership, freedom, adventure, breaking free.
Hawk- common as spirit guides, courage, protection, and awareness.
Hummingbird- I adore hummingbirds and often associate them with faeries. Creativity, joy, love and beauty. Can be a sign that you are moving too fast in life and need to take a break.
Owl- wisdom, associated with the goddess Athena, intuition, spiritual exploration, change, observation and intelligence.
Raven- associated with the nordic god Odin, mystery, magic, fae magic, knowledge, mischieve, and can be seen as a death omen (but can also mean change)
Robin- luck, prosperity, good things will happen, joy and your hard work will soon be rewarded.
Sparrow- associated with Aphrodite, new love and relationships, fertility, team work, time of productivity and stop procrastinating.
Stork-long life, prosperity, fertility, new life, wisdom, take time to relax, motherhood and luck.
Swan- also associated with Aphrodite and Apollo, gracefulness, beauty, music, poetry, creativity, loyalty, and long lasting relationships.
Vulture-death, cleaning up other people’s messes, renewal, patient, use your resources and be perceptive.
Woodpecker- hard work, take advantage of new oppurtunities, attention, progress and determination.
Tip! If you are repeatedly seeing a certain animal or have a strong liking to an animal it could be a way a spirit guide is trying to get your attention (or that animal is just really common in your area lol )
Getting Started
There’s a lot of differing opinion about what to call each hand. The left is sometimes called the hand of your past or the hand of your potential, while the right is sometimes called the hand of your future or the hand of your actualization. Generally speaking, think of your left hand as where you’ve been and your right hand as where you’re going.
Each hand differs in the way its mounts, special zones, and lines look, one hand may even have something the other doesn’t have! So it’s important to exam each hand on their own, and for a deeper reading put the information together. (In order to make the above diagram easier to read, I’ve separated the information across two hands, but all points are mirrored across the hands.)
This guide is a starter guide, however, and won’t be getting into advanced structure palmistry such as knuckles, nails, palm/finger shape, or special markers, so keep that in mind.
I suggest making sure your hands are clean, well moisturized, and rested before you read them so that you can get the most clear and accurate read possible.
Note: * I did my best to include as even number of pros and cons as I could for everything but the literature is very biased… Don’t be discouraged if you have many “bad” traits, as they are all strengths, tools, or things to learn from (in their own way).
Terms
- Full: a large amount of skin/muscle
- Flat: a small amount of skin/muscle
- Weak: difficult to see
- Strong: easy to see
- Start, of a line: shortest distance to, or touching, the outer edge of the hand
- End, of a line: shortest distance to, or within, the center of the palm
- Short: line ends at the center of the palm or sooner
- Long: line ends after the center of the palm
- Fork: a line split into two or more parts
- Break: a line is completely separated, but the two halves are close enough to reasonably be assumed a continuation
- Branch: a “V”, line, or curve that the primary line passes through
- Doubled: a second, smaller line that follows closely to a primary line without crossing it
* Note: Sometimes the meaning of start and end are flipped in other literature, but these are the definitions that make sense to me personally. Once you get familiar with palmistry you can decide for yourself where the start and end are.
Mounts
- Venus ( ♀ ): [Love, friendship, self-care, intuition, vitality, success.] A full mount indicates someone who has many friends or romantic/sexual relationships, takes care of themselves but may over indulge, is frivilous and impulsive, enjoys the arts and “the finer things”, seeks instant gratification, and is influential or well respected. A flat mount indicates someone who is critical, more selective with friendships/romantic partners, is not close with their family, is a deep thinker and not superficial, independent, and may face many hardships.
- Mars, positive ( ♂ ): [Courage, adventure, health, interpersonal, temperament.] A full mount indicates someone who enjoys “getting out there” and is unafraid to be in the spotlight, this person may be stubborn, aggressive, or may have a thick skull, they may have good health, and they communicate effectively but are very defiant. A flat mount indicates someone who has trouble expressing their feelings, is avoidant and anxious, easily over-stimulated, cautious, introspective, and reflective.
- Jupiter ( ♃ ): [Willpower, personal philosophies, self-image.] A full mount indicates someone who cares about how they are perceived by others and therefore works hard to achieve their goals and be on top. This person is hard working, ambitious, responsible, cocky, spiritual, domineering, and may be self-centered but is willing to help others. A flat mount indicates someone who is clumsy, dishonest, self-conscious, has a lack of ambition, is frugal, goes with the flow, is spontaneous, and seems to be socially and spiritually disconnected.
- Saturn ( ♄ ): [Intelligence, independence, patience, duty.] A full mount indicates someone who is in control of their life, responsible and trustworthy, sentimental, cautious, a bit of a show off, and can be depressive, shy, or withdrawn although they are friendly. A flat mount indicates someone who is superstitious, has strong religious or spiritual views, is superficial, disorganized, lacks introspection, this person may have a “go with the flow” attitude, and be more relaxed and carefree.
- Apollo/Solar ( ☉ ): [Wealth, outlook, imagination, compassion.] A full mount indicates someone who is quiet or mild tempered, has many artistic interests or passions, is a modest philanthropist, a perfectionist, quick-tempered and sometimes prideful, and can be envious but is outgoing and flexible. A flat mount indicates someone who over-indulges beyond their means, is disinterested in art, they do not make decisions easily, they have little imagination, are rational and level headed, and may be drawn more to history and hard science.
- Mercury ( ☿ ): [Wisdom, travel, communication, business.] A full mount indicates someone who is financially successful and shrewd in business, they are quick-witted and inventive but may have little follow-through, they may lie easily, and are flexible and adaptive. A flat mount indicates someone who is easy going although may be lazy, shy, and have difficulty communicating.
- Mars, negative: [Self-control, endurance, enthusiasm.] A full mount indicates someone who is steady and stable, endures many hardships, and may not be too courageous. A flat mount indicates someone who is indecisive, has bad luck, has difficulty motivating, but is calm, tactful, and resilient.
- Lunar ( ☾ ): [Imagination, intuition, creativity, emotion.] A full mount indicates someone who is very creative, spiritual, sentimental, and may be depressive or have their head in the clouds. A flat mount indicates someone who is steady, conservative, logical, and may be imaginative but doesn’t express it.
- Neptune ( ♆ ): [Emotions, health, success.] A full mount indicates someone who is very emotional, sentimental, enjoys good health, is charming and charismatic, this person may be cruel, may face many challenges, and may be a talented musician, poet, or writer. A flat mount indicates someone who is unreliable, asocial, without drive, and may have trouble expressing their feelings.
Special Zones
- Will, tip to first knuckle: If longer than #2 Logic, it’s indicated that this person is very reliable and hard working, but acts without thinking. If this portion is full, this person is egotistical; if flat, this person is irresponsible.
- Logic, first to second knuckle: If longer than #1 Will, it’s indicated that this person comes up with ideas easily but has poor follow through and execution. If this portion is full, this person is bossy; if flat, this person is indecisive.
- Love, second knuckle to wrist: Look at the thumb with the nail facing you. If this portion of the thumb widens as you move towards the wrist, it’s indicated that this person has a great capacity to love. If this portion remains the same width the entire length, then they are more reserved and closed off. (This change may be difficult to see, so really examine it.)
- Relationships: The number of lines indicates the number of significant romantic or non-romantic-committed relationships in your life. This does not imply marriage and the relationship itself did not have to be serious for the person’s impact on your life (or your impact on theirs) to have been in a serious way. A fork or break at the end signifies a divorce. Strong lines indicate someone who is open with their feelings and is able to be vulnerable with others. Weak lines indicate someone who is more critical regarding who they get close to but commits more seriously.
- Children: The number of lines indicates the number of children in your life. This does not necessarily imply children you may birth, adopt, or foster but instead reflects the number of lives you had a serious impact on. If a child line crosses a relationship line, you and a partner were both involved with that child. Strong lines indicate healthy children or children you were greatly involved with; weak lines indicate sickly children or children who were only in your life briefly.
Major Lines
- If the line ends at the index finger then this person has a lot of love to share, is a dreamer, but may be let down by their high expectations. If the line ends at the middle finger then this person is more reserved and level-headed when it comes to building relationships. If the line ends between the index and middle fingers this person is very genuine, honest, is free with their relationships, and makes friends/falls in love easily.
- A short line indicates someone who doesn’t think of relationships as being very important to them, they’re independent and some would call them loners, they’re more introspective and self-reliant although selfish and bad with communication. A long line indicates someone who is open and honest but may be harsh or blunt, they may have too high of standards, and be co-dependent.
- Breaks indicate instances when you’ve made a major sacrifice for someone or the end of a relationship. Branches indicate this person is consistent and considerate. A fork indicates a major dispute, separation, or divorce.
- If the line crosses the Heart Line it shows this person invests a lot of time in art and leisure, is very sensitive and sympathetic, but may have a lot of life troubles. If the line is very close to the Heart Line without touching it, relationships are a major part of their life, this person is comforting and supportive. If the line is joined with the Life Line at the start and branches quickly, then they are flexible and resilient. If the line is joined with the Life Line at the start and follows along, then they are introverted, indecisive, and cautious.
- A short line indicates someone who is rash and bold, cares more about material or physical accomplishments than intellectual or spiritual ones, is easily distracted, but achieves goals quickly. A long line indicates someone who is focused, stubborn, and may procrastinate.
- If this person has a doubled line, educational and intellectual pursuits are of highest priority, they have a high mental ability, and they like to look at issues from multiple perspectives. A palm-facing fork indicates someone who is imaginative, creative, and has a strong social bond. An outer hand-facing fork indicates someone who is clever and ambitious, but domineering and may not meet their high expectations. Breaks indicate poor health and career shifts, people with many breaks are strong-minded and need many relationships.
- A short line indicates someone who is easily manipulated, deceived, and taken advantage of, this person may be sick often, is able to easily overcome obstacles, and must take special care to understand their own limits. A long line indicates someone who is very in tune with their intuition, is resilient, enjoys sports and physical activity, has a lot of stamina and vitality, has good health, and draws strength from pushing their limits.
- Breaks indicate a serious illness or injury and unexpected changes in life. Outer hand-facing forks indicate someone who is diligent, ambitious, optimistic, and successful. Palm-facing forks indicate someone who focuses and work/school, is able to keep their personal and professional relationships separate, and will do a lot of traveling. Branches pointing to the fingers indicate success and achievement, branches pointing to the wrist indicate illness, worries, or life stresses as well as achievements
- If the line stops at the Heart Line, then this person is ruled by their emotions and make many impulsive decisions. If the line stops at the Head Line, then this person will have a major career change, of their own choice, and break out into their dreams. A line that ends at Apollo indicates success in the arts. A line that ends at Jupiter indicates great power. A line that ends at Saturn indicates someone who will achieve great success with little effort.
- A line that starts in Venus is destined to be wealthy or notable. A line that starts on the Life Line indicates someone who co-dependent, very emotional, and may have trouble with relationships. A line that starts in +Mars indicates someone who is very successful in business. A line that starts in Luna indicates someone who is very helpful and will network easily. A line that starts on the Heart Line indicates someone who will achieve success later in life.
- Breaks indicate difficulties in school and work. Branches indicate someone who will have great success and affluence. Forks indicate someone who has many dreams and goals and may be involved in multiple business ventures.
- No fate line indicates someone who is go with the flow and is happy to walk any path in life.
Minor Lines
- Fortune/Sun: If this line is present, it indicates someone who will have major success. They are extremely capable and have great communication skills and follow through. People with this line are very creative, sensitive, and popular. The longer the line, the greater the success and the longer you will have success. A very short line indicates someone who is ordinary but doing well. No line indicates someone who will struggle to achieve their goals, consult the Fate and/or Life lines.
- Health/Intuition: If this line is present, it indicates someone who stretches themselves to the limit. Generally this is the line of psychics, empaths, and healers. People with this line should take extra precautions when spending a lot of time around people in order to preserve their health. Consult the Life and Heart lines.
- Rascette/Bracelets: Most people have 3-4 of these lines. A strong first bracelet indicates good health and few obstacles in life. A strong second bracelet indicates a stable career and financial situation. A strong third bracelet indicates someone who is well respected in the community, popular, and/or influential. The presence of a fourth bracelet indicates an extremely long life. Having only one line indicates serious health upsets or depression.
Some Palmistry
The Significance of Rings
Rings add weight to the area of life that the finger represents, or could reveal imbalances. A ring placed with intent can enhance areas of your life. This can be strengthened by rings with corresponding crystals. When a ring is worn unconsciously, it more likely refers to the negative trait or imbalance that corresponds with that finger. Left hand: Corresponds to your personal and private life. Connected to family and personal identity or internal issues. Your left hand reflects the energy you take in. Right hand: Relates to your public life. Connected to work and your relation to society. Your right hand reflects the energy you give out. Middle Finger Element: Earth Considered the finger of cultural identity. It reflects how you related to justice, law, order, and responsibility. Can also signify inner security or materialism. Consciously placed ring: Reduce anxiety, improve stability, desire for self-development. Unconsciously placed ring: domestic unhappiness, insecurities, judgmental, lack of security. Crystals: garnet, onyx, agate, topaz, tiger’s eye, jade.
Index Finger Element: Water Considered the finger of personal identity, how you relate to and see yourself. Associated with leadership, ambition, and self-confidence. Consciously placed ring: Boost self-esteem, increase authority, improve confidence. Unconsciously placed ring: Damaged self-esteem, feeling not good enough, feeling better than others, controlling personality. Crystals: tourmaline, lapis lazuli, peridot, opal, emerald. Ring Finger Element: Fire Represents your extra-personal identity and self-expression. It represents creativity and love of beauty. If it’s a wedding ring or engagement ring, it represents success in finding a mate. But if bought by the wearer it can represent self-love. Consciously placed ring: Strengthen creativity, express friendliness, improve aesthetic awareness. Unconsciously placed ring: Creative frustration, concern with image, desire to be liked. Crystals: garnet, ruby, pink tourmaline, diamond. Little Finger Element: Air Considered the finger of impersonal identity. It reflects communication and sexuality. Also represents confidence in relationships and strength. Consciously placed ring: Improve communication, express sexuality/sexual identity, gain confidence in regards to relationships. Unconsciously placed ring: Poor communication, lies, difficulty with sexuality/sexual identity Crystals: blue topaz, sapphire, aquamarine. Thumb Element: Ether Your thumb symbolizes your spiritual identity. It relates to your will power, determination, and application of personal energy. It also reflects your ability to reason and apply logic. As the thumb is separate from the rest of the fingers, and a very useful finger, it also represents strength, independent thought, and freedom. Consciously placed ring: Boost energy level, increase will power/motivation, provide comfort, increase reasoning, increase personal strength and independence. Unconsciously placed ring: lack of energy, feeling powerless, lack of control, poor reasoning, feeling trapped, stubborn/stuck in own way, need for control, aggressive/forceful Crystals: moonstone, diamond, amethyst. Rings on all/many fingers This can indicate a negative circumstance that you are being faced with. It shows a likely lack of feeling safe or secure in your world, and that your putting on a front. It can also signify avoidance to deal with issues affecting your life.
Palmistry 101: #2 Configuration and Meanings (Very Long Post!)
Okay, so in ‘Palmistry 101: #1′ we covered the basic stuff on lines and mounts, right? Well, now we’re going to cover what a mount or line means if it appears a certain way; basically, we’re going to talk about how to read a palm.
You should sit your cute butt down and grab some snacks because this is going to be one heck of a long post!
Where Do I Start? You start, by asking whomever you are reading, to turn their hands so that their palms are skyward, naturally. “But, Roe, which hand do I read!?” I hear you cry, and I say in reply: ideally, both. It is said that the left hand displays the potential of the person and the right displays what that person has done with this potential in this life.
You may hear some say that left-handed people should have their right palm read, and vice versa. This is, as a chiromancer, your choice of course, though I tend to stick to both hands.
Now, this may sound a little ridiculous but trust me, all things factor into it when you’re palm reading. Even the shape of the hand that you’re working on. You heard me correctly: the shape of the hand.
Hands:
In short, there are four main types of hands. I will say that not everyone fits perfectly into one category, but most do. The types of hands are based on the elements and, don’t be surprised or upset if your hand type does not align with your sun zodiac (your main astrological sign).
Earth Hands: typically, earthen hands have wide and square-ish palms and fingers to match, and the length of their palm is equal to that of their fingers (my hands fit into this part. The skin may be thick or rough and overall, earthen hands have quite a… flushed or ruddy appearance to them. My hands are earthen hands, for example (minus the rough skin… I have ridiculously soft skin).
People with Earth hands tend to be of a practical and level-headed nature; they are grounded but don’t mistake that for dullness. As a general rule, they like to experience things and prefer being able to get out into the world and learn by doing. Often, they come across as conservative/adverse to change or quiet and have an intense preference for the outdoors and nature (kind of comes with being connected to the element earth, really).
Air Hands: firstly, this sounds like a very strange super-power. Cool.. Air hands usually have a square or rectangular shaped palm and long, slim fingers. They often have projected knuckles, dry skin or low-set thumbs (low-set thumbs means that the thumb is positioned lower and nearer the wrist). Normally, the length of the palm and hands is equal.
Those with air hands are highly intellectual or academic, are curious and constantly full of and developing new ideas. They carry a restless energy about them and are prone to worry and/or stress. Generally, they are superb at communicating with others, but they are also known to withhold emotions and feelings, meaning that forming and maintaining meaningful and intimate relationships is often difficult.
Water Hands: (Hi my name is Rowan, and like every responsible almost-20-year old, every time I read this I think of Avatar!) It is said that those with water hands have long, flexible fingers and small oval or circular palms. The palm is usually quite stout; the width is greater than the height.
People with this type of hand(s) are usually hyper-emotional. They are motivated by feelings, more often than not and are constantly looking for peace or a peaceful life; they do not handle stress or worry well. They are typically creative and artistic.
Fire Hands: those with fire hands (now this one sounds like a painful skin condition) typically have smaller hands overall: a square or rectangular palm, shorter fingers and their skin may have a pinkish complexion.
Like fire itself, those with fire hands are absolutely bursting with energy and are always ready to go. They get bored easily without variety and can, unfortunately, be a little impatient and/or dogmatic and intolerant. Typically, they make fantastic leaders in almost all situations and are vehement in their individuality.
So! Hand shapes covered, let’s quickly cover the possible meanings of your hand’s temperature. Yes, even that may mean something!
Cold hands: you may be kind and generous, but you’re reserved and may come off as what some would describe as a hermit. Clammy/sweaty hands: you may be lazy and unstable, but in all you do you have good intentions. Warm/hot hands: you may be considered as wild or fierce and successful, but you may come off as insincere to others.
The Lines
Alrighty, so we covered which lines were which and what they signify in this post’s predecessor (the link to it is at the top, but if you don’t feel like scrolling back up click here) but now it’s time to go into a lot more detail, whoopie!
Quirks to Look Out For: Branches: (lines that branch out from the main line) emphasizes strengths. Breaks: (a break in the line; if the line is segmented) emphasizes weakness(es). Chains: (lots of small circles that run along a line) obscurity in goals or deviations from them. Crosses: (one of these ‘x’ on a line) upheaval, violence and struggles. Islands: (islands are small circular shapes that are within the line, not running through or over it) delays and issues, injuries or hereditary problems. Stars: (one of these ‘*’ on a line) emphasizes luck.
The Heart Line, concerns everything that ties in with love. May it be romantic, platonic or any other kind. If this line begins under your index finger, it means that you have a love life that you are happy with; a satisfying one, if you will. If it begins beneath your middle finger, it suggests that you are selfish in love. It’s all about you, you, you. If it begins between these two fingers, like mine, it means you are quick to fall in love, and it happens easily.
If the line is short, it means that you have little interest in romantic love or romance in general, - you would rather be focusing on other things! If your heart line touches your life line, you suffer heartbreak very easily and the smallest betrayal hits you hard. A long and curving heart line suggests that you are practiced at expressing your feelings and emotions, and you do it well whereas a straight line means that you are practical in love. This is reinforced if your heart line runs parallel to your life line. It is said that if you have a wavy heart line, you have or will have a string of temporary lovers in place of a serious relationship.
Small lines or breaks in this line may indicate that you have suffered or may suffer some form of emotional trauma, whilst a small circle on the line may signify sadness or depression.
The Head Line, is indicative of your wisdom and your intellectual power. Generally, a curved line tells us that you are a person of creativity and spontaneity, whereas a straight line says you are a fan of structure and things being done in a practical manner.
A short head line means that you have a preference for physical achievements opposed to intellectual or academic accomplishments. In short, you’d rather finish a race than a book. A curvy or wavy line that is not deep-set in your palm indicates that your attention span is short, a deep, long line means that you are a focused and profound thinker. If you have a straight head line, it means you are someone who thinks realistically; that does not mean you’re a pessimist, but you tend not to fantasize or day dream about things that are not realistically relevant to you.
If your head and life lines are separate it means that you are adventurous and have an insatiable appetite for adventure and a never ending lust for life.
If there is a circle or a cross in your head line, it means that there is some kind of emotional crisis in your life. If there are multiple crosses or a chain present, it means that in your lifetime you will have to make many decisions and a lot of them will be difficult.
The Life Line, also known as the line of destiny, is indicative of your character and of any important or big events that will take place during your life. Contrary to popular (and scary) belief, your life line does not denote how long you will live!
The closer your life line is to your thumb, the less energy you are bound to have and you may be a person who is chronically tired or exhausted. If your life line is the opposite of this, (wide and curvaceous) you are the opposite of this. You will have a plethora of energy! If it is a large, swooping semi-circle, you are a strong person who is bubbling with enthusiasm, but a straight line that does not stray far from the edge of your palm says that you are someone who is very cautious in all relationships.
A deep and long life line denotes an inner strength and vitality to be proud of, but a short and shallow line means that you are someone who may find themselves easily manipulated by others.
A circle on/in your life line means injury or hospitalization, and a break in the line signifies drastic changes in lifestyle.
The Fate/Fortune Line, may be read in tandem with the life line when looking at the future (this is one of those lines that not everyone has, so don’t worry if you can’t find yours).
If you happen to have a deep-set fate/fortune line, it means that destiny has a pretty strong hand in what happens during your lifetime (if you subscribe to the idea that fate is a thing, of course). Numerous breaks in this line mean that outside forces will influence and cause changes in your life many, many times.
A fate/fortune line that is joined to the life line means that you are self-made; you have aspirations and goals and you do all you can to achieve them. You make your own fate. A line that starts at the bottom of your palm indicates that you will be in the public eye quite often, though this doesn’t always mean on a large scale.
The Mounts
Okay! This is the last part I promise! You’ve been so good, reading this whole she-bang, and I’m so proud of you (and also so grateful because let me tell you, this has taken way longer than I planned it to).
Again, these were covered in the previous post so you can defer back to that if you need to because it’s here,…again!
The little flesh mountains we all have on our hands, these are the mounts. To ‘read’ them, cup your hand ever so slightly and look at it side-on. You should be able to see which mounts are high, low or flat.
The Venus Mount, (the one under your thumb) when high can signify that the person is over indulgent in their love life and is promiscuous as a result; they may be someone who demands instant appeasement and satisfaction in such matters. A normal mount suggests a passionate person who holds influence over those around them, and has a love for the finer things and the arts. A flat Venus mount is indicative of someone who is quick to criticise and has little to no interest in family or family life.
The Jupiter Mount, (under your index finger) when high means that you are self-concerned/centred and can often be aggressive and dominating. A mount of normal elevation suggests a natural leader; someone intelligent and with ambition whereas a flat mount is suggestive of low confidence and self-belief/esteem.
The Saturn Mount, (under your middle finger) when high means that you are obstinate and prefer to be alone/your own company. It means you are shy, withdrawn, a cynic and can signify depression. A normal sized mount says that you are responsible and you work hard. You are trusting and friendly. A flat or low mount means that you are incredibly disorganised and concerned only with the superficial aspect of things.
The Apollo/Sun Mount, (beneath your ring finger) when high suggests that you have an elevated sense of pride; you are extravagant and like to praise and compliment/flatter those around you, but you are also quick to anger and have a temper. A normal Apollo/Sun mount means that you are an outgoing and confident individual who is well suited to adapt to changing situations and circumstances. A low or flat mount indicates that you have little imaginative capability and making decisions is often a difficult task.
The Mercury Mount, (beneath your little finger) when high, may mean that you speak too much too often and often speak lies/have a tendency to be untruthful and greedy. A mount of normal elevation means that you are a thoughtful and versatile individual with a wide variety of interests and/or hobbies. Those with this sort of mount flourish in a business environment and are able to read others deftly. A low or flat Mercury mount signifies shyness and the inability to communicate well; it also signifies a lack of money or the lacking ability to make money.
The Luna/Moon Mount, (along the outside of your palm - starts beneath the little finger) when high, indicates that the person lives so much within the realm of their imagination, that it clouds their sense of reality. It suggests a very, very high level of creativity and someone who has a deep-seated love and passion for the arts. A low or flat mount suggests that the person lives very much inside their own imagination and mind, but does not share it with those around them. They may be shy and suffer from depression. They will likely be a pessimist.
Palmistry 101: #1 The Major Lines & Mounts
Open your hand and look at your palm. There are a series of lines running through it, aren’t there? There should be. I’d be slightly concerned if the palm of your hand was completely smooth.
These lines are used in palmistry (a.k.a., palm reading or chiromancy), and depict a number of things. Each of the major lines has it’s own individual meaning and outlines a certain course in a person’s life. These lines come in varying shapes and sizes, and not every person has all six of the major lines - this is what we note when reading someone’s palm. Everyone does, however, have the top three in the list below. The words following the name of the line are the meanings and traits associated with that particular line.
The Major Lines
The Heart Line: (the heart line is the horizontal line that runs around half-an-inch beneath your fingers) emotions, insecurities, marriages, dependence and independence and the nature of the relationships you have/will have.
The Head Line: (the head line/line of mine is the line that runs about a centimetre below the heart line) intellect, reasoning power, prospective career paths/choices, your success potential.
The Life Line: (the life line is the that starts at the same point as the head line and curves in a reversed ‘c’ shape towards the wrist; it should finish at the heel of your hand) pattern and quality of life, physical vitality, stability or imbalance, willpower and logic, but not necessarily an indication of the length of life.
The Fate/Fortune Line: (a line that runs vertically from beneath your middle finger and down to your wrist) the strengths of character, career, friendships, daily issues and your personal ability to succeed.
The Health Line: (a line that begins where the life line ends, and ends beneath the little finger) health related matters, business and adventures; the spirit of discovery.
The Sun Line: (a line that starts beneath the ring finger (for lefties - for people who are having their right hand read, it’s the same finger I just don’t know what it’s actually called) and is usually a short line that stops when it connects with the line of health) the utilization of creative energies and potential for success through the development of talents.
The Mounts
The Mounts of the hand are what I like to call the ‘flesh cushions’ beneath each of the fingers and at the heel of the palm. They each have a personality trait with which they are associated and everyone has mounts. Some people’s may be… fleshier, than others but they are there nonetheless.
Mercury (☿): (beneath the little finger) buoyancy, shrewdness, wit, and spirit.
Apollo/The Sun (☉): (ring finger) creativity/creative genius, fantasy, imagination and happiness.
Saturn (♄): (middle finger) patience, responsibility; cautiousness.
Jupiter (♃): (index finger) leadership, honour, ambition, beliefs, philosophies and spirituality/religiousness.
Lower Mars (♂): (below Mercury) morals/moral courage and self control. Upper Mars (♂): (little fleshy blob above the Venus mount) resistance, coolness of spirit, calmness.
Venus (♀): (under your thumb; the bit your life line curves around) Love/affection, vitality, sensuality and success(es).
The Moon/Luna (☾): (runs along the outside of the palm; starts beneath your little finger and runs along the side of your hand) Imagination, creativity and emotion.
I will make a post about what the shapes/types of lines and mounts signify and link it here.

Palmistry 101
When reading palms, whether your own or someone else’s, these are the main things to consider:
- Which hand is dominant? For right-handed people, the left hand gives information about inherited characteristics and potential, while the right hand reveals the development, character, and life events. The opposite is true for left-handed folks!
- Quality of lines and their points of intersection. How strong or fine are the lines? Are they straight and long, broken and twisted, etc.?
- The directions of lines, which mounts they occur on or near, and their influences.
- Shape of the hand, fingers, nails, and mounts.
- General demeanor of the person and the hand.
MAJOR LINES
Each line has its own meaning and depicts a certain course of action in a person’s life. Lines come in all shapes and sizes. Not everyone has all six of these lines, although the first three are always present (the fate line is usually present as well).
- Heart line: emotions, insecurities, marriages, dependence and independence, the nature of your relationships.
- Head line: intellect, reasoning powers, prospective career paths, potentials for success.
- Life line: pattern and quality of life, physical vitality, stability or imbalance, will power and logic, not necessarily the indicator for length of your life.
- Fate/Saturn line: strengths of character, career, friendships, life’s daily problems, and general ability to succeed.
- Mercury/Health line: health matters, business and adventure, the spirit of discovery.
- Apollo/Sun line: utilization of creative energies and potentials for success through development of talents.
MOUNTS
The mounts are fleshy cushions underneath each of the fingers. These mounts carry the same name as the finger they are under. Below are the different character and personality traits associated with each finger/mount.
- Mercury: Pinky. buoyancy, shrewdness, wit, spirit.
- Apollo/Sun: Ring finger. compassion, love of beauty, artistic abilities, potential for success.
- Saturn/Fate: Middle finger. seriousness, cautiousness, gloom, superstition.
- Jupiter: Index finger. leadership, honor, ambition, spirituality/religiousness.
- Lower Mars: Below pinky. moral courage, self-control.
- Upper Mars: Below thumb. resistance, coolness of spirit, calmness, courage.
- Venus: Thumb. benevolence, affection, humility, passion.
- Moon: sentimentaliity, imagination, self-centeredness

- Breaks in lines: emphasize weaknesses.
- Chains: signify obscure goals, inclinations to deviate.
- Crosses: signify upheavals, violence, struggles, and blunders.
- Islands: indicate delays, injuries, and problems.
- Stars: emphasize luckiness.
