Welcome to my tumblr! It has no theme; here I post random bits and pieces of anything that happens to interest me, from historical manuscripts and scientific diagrams to Doctor Who gifsets and my own directionless musings, as well as the occasional bits and pieces of my own drawings.

Just caught up with the new episodes of Arcane - been looking forward to it for a while now, I'm excited for the rest.

How intricate and subtle the animation is really brought up something that's been lurking in my mind for a while now. I think one of the things I really love about animation - any kind of animation, really - is the sheer amount of intent that has to go into it. With live action, things can sneak in by accident sometimes; e.g. maybe there's a bug crawling about in the background, maybe an extra's making a weird face and nobody notices early enough to edit it out in post.

But with animation, there is nothing on screen that somebody at some point in the production process did not make a conscious effort to include. So if that bug's still there, if that extra's still making a weird face, that was a deliberate decision by someone, even if it was just one of the animators thinking "Hey, this would be a funny detail to include" rather than something that came all the way through scripting and storyboarding.

Penguin colony, some in the main enclosure and some outside for their Wee Waddle.

Including, sadly, my final photos of Snowflake. He was put down earlier this week. He was pretty old for a penguin (28, significantly older than he would have managed in the wild) and he'd been limping for a while now. I suppose the keepers decided that the pain medication wasn't helping him any more.

That reminds me, actually, I never posted my photos from the zoo last weekend. I didn't take as many as I sometimes do - it was a dark, overcast sort of day, so a lot of them didn't come out too well - but I still got a few decent shots.

The cotton-top tamarins were being particularly energetic. These were the only ones I took where they stayed still long enough.

This genre of re-enactment of video game logic/bugs/behaviour will never cease to be immensely funny

Not to mention everyone who does it is so insanely talented at portraying not only the vibes, but being dead on with the motion. I mean the courier in this alone has amazing core strength and rag dolls the EXACT way that bodies do in game. It’s honestly incredible.

For the record:

This is a 'Fun stuff I want to look at' blog. To that end, I have two absolutely ironclad rules that govern my use of this site.

  • I do not get into arguments with random strangers. No matter how wrong I think they are. I will not start a fight with you, and if you try to start one with me, I will just block you.
  • I do not post about actual real-world politics. Fictional, maybe. Real, no. Not on a local, national or global level. I do not post about politics.

We all on the same page here? OK, go about your day.

Actually let's make it fair (just submitted the could you find your state/home poll)

(I put continent instead of country, since it's not exactly fair for someone living in a country smaller than a US state to say they could find their home on a country map lol)

Thanks again mod!!

i feel like we brits have an unfair advantage here because it's within the island rather than having to figure out where, say, lichtenstein or something is. i could prob get to within a few miles very easily

Spent the day at UF’s large animal hospital and got to see this :) This is a Thoroughbred named Sling going 37 miles an hour. Unfortunately, I caught this at the end as he was coming down from the speed. I love my school!

Eeeeee that’s so cool! I love seeing these.

I love how you can hear and see the horse’s tempo change from gallop to canter
