Digital watercolor sketch of how that two second cutting-the-thread-with-his-teeth scene actually went down. You know what I mean.
THE TERROR ▸ 1.10 we are gone
the hunter gestures to lady silence. crozier immediately reddens. of course lady silence has a name. she just never offered it. silna. this woman’s name has been silna all along.
THE TERROR ▸ 1.10 we are gone
crozier has been given a fur blanket and seal meat to eat. he looks around the tent, much as lady silence did when she was aboard the ships. he’s the outsider now, an outsider who is partly responsible for the mayhem, violence, and terror delivered to these people.
Right, back to my usual schedule of rewatching and thinking way too much about random shit.
Do you think it means anything, the slightly differing levels of formality with which Franklin and Crozier refer to each other in their first scenes?
-
I feel like Crozier is the more distant and formal of the two, even if only slightly:
"Tell Mr. Diggle Sir John and Commander Fitzjames are coming aboard to dine tonight."
Whereas Franklin is more casual in his use of first names:
"Let Francis know James and I will be joining him for dinner."
-
Could mean nothing I suppose. Just something I noticed just now.
It's rank. Officers generally refer to other similarly-ranked or lower-ranked officers by their first name. Hence, franklin referring to francis as "francis". But francis is alluding to his senior officer, so he refers to him as "sir john". The "commander fitzjames" bit was just for consistency and to avoid the phrase "sir john and james", all while hinting at some animosity in their relationship.
This is also why francis sounds so rude in the command meeting in episode 1. When he says "hear me, john...", he was very obviously setting aside rank.
Same reason for why francis bristles at being called his first name by james. Technically he outranks james and should be called "captain crozier", but james is "captain" of the flagship and thus perceives themselves as equals. The disregard for protocol is starker when franklin dies, because by then francis becomes "senior officer and expedition commander" and james has lost the little loophole that allows him to ignore francis' rank. and so we get the "you'll call me what i'm due to be called" scene.
The Terror 1.10 "We Are Gone"
I keep imagining James telling Francis that he was born in Rio de Janeiro, and Francis being like “uh, wait a minute. In 1813?” And James saying “yeah, you know I was born in 1813, what?” And then Francis is all like “oh, Christ, James, I was IN Rio in 1813, serving in the navy,” and spends like two days being super awkward about their age difference.
INT. AWKWARD DINNER AT SIR JOHN’S
CROZIER: fellas remember the Treaty of Gulistan oh sorry i bet some of you are too young for that reference FITZJAMES: I know how the Russo-Persian War ended Francis
CROZIER: lmao remember when Pride and Prejudice was published FITZJAMES: Are you just listing things that happened in CROZIER: Drink if you remember 1813
«you see how our hands shake? one night in the Antarctic did this for both of us» – this quote lives in my head rent free.
so here are completely randomly looking James Clark Ross and even more randomly looking Crozier... yeah...
Second attempt digitally papercrafting scenes from The Terror. Figuring out the layers was a nightmare, but I loved doing some of the wear and tear and folding.
If you like freezing rain, iceberg derby and penguins, have we got an expedition for yooooou!
Just learned how to do papercraft on procreate so guess what show is getting a bunch of screenshot redraws
Go on guess
