Asexuals who still enjoy sex are just as valid as sex repulsed or sex indifferent asexuals

Aromantic folks who still crave romance are just as valid as romance repulsed or romance indifferent aros

Aroace folks who want to be with people outside of being friends are equally as valid as aroace folks who do not want to be in a relationship with anyone

Alloaros and alloaces are just as valid as aroace folks and we should not be excluding them from the aspec community

Agender people are part of the aspec community and we should not neglect agender folks in favor of acespec/arospec folks

Did someone say aromantic subtext?

(You don’t need to know any music theory to get something out of this essay, and I tried very hard to make the nerdy music theory motivic analysis as accessible to everyone as possible. Go read it!)

STOP posting SEXUAL THINGS with THE ASEXUAL TAG

look, I'm very sex favorable. I even engage in the devils tango as an asexual. however, I get nauseous seeing so many naked bodies, and they are plastered all over the asexual tag. seriously. I get that people are just tossing every lgbt tag on their sexy posts for traction but maybe leave off the one literally about not feeling sexual attraction.

Just a thought. :)

A list of rules when interacting with an aroace person, by an aroace person:

- Do not romantic our platonic. We will not hesitate to smash a rock into your skull.

- Do not piss us off. We're all attached by invisible walkie-talkies. It's like roaches--if there's one, there's definitely another one nearby.

- Do not say things like 'when you're married' or 'when you meet that special person'. Trust me, coming to terms with an aroace identity in a romance-centered world is not a fun, quirky choice.

- Do not assume that we don't like seeing romance/sex in the media. I'm aroace and one of my favourite genres is romance.

- WE ARE LGBTQIA+. Doesn't matter if we're cis, heterosexual but aromantic or heteroromantic but asexual or any other combination of all the various shades of aspec, WE COUNT AS QUEER PEOPLE.

- Do not equate being aroace or on the aspectrum to being celibate. It's not the same thing. Being aroace is not a choice.

- Being aroace does not mean we're all lonely or sad. Eating garlic bread is scientifically shown to boost your serotonin levels (don't fact check me on this)

- Living with someone or wanting to live with someone doesn't mean we want them romantically! If you have the option to establish a hideout for you and all your buddies, why wouldn't you?

This was, again, a list of rules when interacting with an aroace person, shown to reduce chances of dying by burnt breadsticks and pasta by 100%!

As the holidays are upon us, sometimes it's difficult to be aspec during this time, when family questions every area of our identities. "When will you have a boyfriend/girlfriend?" "Where are our grandkids?" Etc. etc.

Remember, you aren't alone. We're here for you. Wishing you all the best during this time, which may be wonderful or may be stressful. You are valid! ♥

Happy Ace Week, everyone!! No matter where you are on the ace spectrum, you are celebrated this week! And if you are learning about asexuality, we hope that this week will prove helpful.

[image description: a purple square with the text "Happy Ace Week!! October 22nd-28th, 2023." There are illustrations of a rainbow in the asexuality pride flag colors (black, gray, white, purple) and a purple star character with a smiling face. The AVEN logo is in the lower right corner.]
