Everytime i think about Steven Universe and the concept of Teshuvah I become something else.

Rebecca Sugar, creator of SU is jewish and that cultural perspective is woven into the very fiber of Steven Universe

Teshuvah is how Judaism approaches redemption/reconciliation/forgiveness

So these two images should give you a barebones idea of what Teshuvah is.

The Steven Universe Redemption formula IS Teshuvah.

To demonstrate, I will be using the most controversial example of redemption in Steven Universe: The Diamonds.

Before I start we should establish that Judaism does not acknowledge the concept of a "point of no return" there is always a way back, there is always a way to improve and a way to make things right as much as can be done.

Rigorous self examination:

When confronted with the fact that they were genuinely hurting Pink/Steven/The Gems in a way they couldn't ignore they all go through this process.

"I always thought you were failing this world, but if you were happier on Earth maybe this world was failing you."

Blues is the most plainly laid out, here she confronts that it was in fact their treatment of Pink thay drove her away and that their current treatment of Steven was perpetuating that same cycle.

Yellow doesn't do it verbally but here she is forced to confront the fact that she is feeling guilt and that she is also unhappy with they way Homeworld is run.

White diamond has to confront the fact that she's not infallible and that her worldview is based on things that arent true.

Engage the victim by confessing, expressing regret and making every effort possible to right the wrong.

The diamonds admit to the faults of their reign, and they express regret as seen above. As for making every effort possible:

They dismantle the entire empire, allowing Steven and the gems to install democracy instead, reducing their role in society to little more than super-powered tv celebrities. They heal the corrupted gems and literally PUT THE SHATTERED GEMS BACK TOGETHER, including those that had been "clustered" they work hard to have a positive relationship with Steven and honor Pinks memory. And they work to help with mood stabilization and giving a voice to those who were previously voiceless in society.

This is from the scene where they go to heal the corrupted gems:

That archway sure is strangely shaoed hmm i wonder what it-

Its no coincidence that the Diamonds are shown in their Quintessential Scene Of Making Amends in a garden with a Magen David archway.

And finally, Being presented with same oppurtunity to sin and abstaining:

"I've disbanded my armies, I've liberated my colonies" Yellow Diamond could have at any point went back on her word and went right back on to colonizing the stars. She doesn't. When we see what she is up to post SU most of what she is doing is studying how to help people instead.

"I never shatter, I never make anyone cry."

Blue could also have gone back to her old ways at any time, she could get overwhelmed in her greif and torment people with her powrrs but she doesnt.

"I've been saying please and thank you even to lower life forms." Even if White's delivery leaves some to be desired shes making an effort to treat everyone with baseline respect.

And yes these things are brought up by them to exclaim how good theyve been in hopes of comvincing steven to stay but they dont trap him there when he says no anyways like they might have done in the past. They look for another solution and eventually let it go when its made clear their alternate solution also doesnt work.

There's also Spinel, spinel would be a prime opportunity to once again abuse a much smaller and less powerful person into being their personal clown but only under their rules but when we see spinel living on homeworld she is free and and unbothered.

Even if the Diamonds still aren't the most likable people by the end of the entire series they still fulfilled Teshuvah.

And ftr Jewish law forbids killing someone even to ssve anothers life.

Steven Universe is a JEWISH story of reconciliation and redemption. Remember that next time you see someone call it "nazi propoganda" because imo demonizing a jewish person for writing their story with a fundamentally jewish take and calling it facist apologia is far closer to "nazi propoganda" than the show ever could be.

White Diamond has different forms

Okay so I’ve been driving myself nuts with the Serious Steven mural again this afternoon but I’m just gonna focus one thing I think I figured out:

First off, there’s no way this ain’t WD right? It’s big, it’s white, it’s a diamond shape, and this is Steven Universe where they like to hide things (like Diamonds) in plain sight.

So then I get to looking at the mural again, trying to figure out who those figures are, and I come across this concept drawing of the mural:

Here, proto Rose/Pink is depicted with a diamond symbol. For obvious reasons this design went through a complete overhaul, but it goes to follow that if a diamond was being depicted in the mural, it would have a diamond symbol like this, right? Unless their identity as a Diamond was being obscured from us, as with Rose.

So with that in mind I was wondering, who are these triangle ladies, and why are they so reminiscent of the diamonds? For example, there are 3 of them excluding Pink, the far right one is yellow, and the middle one appears to be standing on some waves (Blue may not have water powers but her theme of tears still connects her to the water, in my view).

But they can’t be the Diamonds we know. For one thing, they look nothing like them, and we know Blue and Yellow looked the way do now since before Rose Quartz even existed. And Rose (definitely our Rose because she has the star) is depicted in this mural alongside these figures. And as I said above, they would have diamond symbols - but they don’t, they have triangles.

So what is the secret? Maybe the events of the episode hold a clue? What was the big mystery they had to solve? After remembering his tea cup funland ride, Steven realized that the pyramid was spinning them around.

The whole place got a spinny thing goin’ on here. The spinning’s pretty important I think!

And the triangle ladies - where can we find triangles? Well if you look at the pyramid gem which I presume to be White, you see that it’s a square pyramid shape just like everything else in this place:

Illuminati confirmed, end of post

But no seriously, we’ve already been shown one Diamond moving her gem around to change which face is exposed:

So maybe those triangle beings are all White Diamond, only with her gem spun to a different side.

“JUST like the teacups!!”

And maybe, when White spins her gem around to a different face, she gains different powers, different appearances. Maybe as the leader of the Diamonds, she holds the power of all the Diamonds.

Like white light that can become any color

Like a magical gem man-e-faces!

And yes there’s a huge hole in this theory. WD is depicted in the moon base mural as having her gem on her forehead. To that, my only argument is that the orb she holds obscures her chest:

And that the way those hands are held around the orb and the gem are way too similar for me to not think there’s a connection. I dunno what to say about the forehead gem

So yeah, that’s what I think

Little things in 'Change your mind'

• ‘Go to your rooms!’ ‘Which rooms…?’ idk it’s just funny

• 'All those silly thing she did for no reason… there was a reason. She wanted us to be happy together’ ~ Blue, about Pink. I think it’s worth noticing, that yes, maybe Pink was childish and acted irresponsibly, but she just wanted her family to laugh, and it’s so pure • Lapis was able to face the Diamonds and it’s so big for her character

• The way Bismuth interacted with Lapis and Peridot, gently taking Lapis'es hand and confidently touching Peridot

• I wonder if Peridot was able to use her metal powers on Bismuth because of the armor or the fact that Bismuth is a metal

• When talking through Garnet, White didn’t say “I” but “we”, I think because she didn’t want to admit that Garnet is one person, like Blue didn’t

• It was pretty much confirmed that when first meeting with Steven White was talking to the gem not the person; she was aware that Steven is half human and knew what 'mother’ and 'child’ meant, also acknowledged Steven’s existence when he told her that he wasn’t his mom • White was referred as “off color” when blushing, had she been pure white all the time before?

• I don’t think that White knew what corruption was, Steven had to show her Centi and explain

• White greeting off-colors? And being generally so awkward, no wonders, after having not left one room for eons

• Corruption was healed by swimming in the same pool as the Diamonds, which I think confirms that Diamonds’ fluids have some special powers

MAJOR SDCC SU SPOILERS

Im not so sure about White Diamond. She severely creeped me out in just the one scene she was in.

I would say that she is a “mess”, if that wraps it up correctly. She can’t seem to hold anything together, like her mentality is broken. Her creepy smile gave me that feeling of someone who thinks they have everything under control, but they are actually going mad (ie. Azula from Avatar: The Last Airbender).

She has many broken things, including her Pearl, who has taken the form of being broken (since her gem itself is not actually damaged). Homeworld is completely cut in half, nearly destroyed. The giant statue (which I assume is her ship because if you put all the others together, they make a giant woman) is deteriorating. And when she sees that Pink/Steven is back, she just accuses him of playing some sort of game, and now everything can go back to normal.

I think her character revolves around the idea of having everything in control, but in reality, nothing is, and she drives herself mad with it.
