I've typeset and bound the Bifrost Incident by the Mechanisms. Courtesy of two fellow bookbinders I've got fancy corners and apple leather. And courtesy of Mum and her sewing machine, getting the leather and cloth together was easy (for me 🤭). I didn't quite think through when cutting the edges and so they're not really pointed. (Which is mostly hidden by the corrners now.)

I entertained various ideas for the cover. Would've liked to create a mock tape, complete with a ribbon acting as magnetic tape on the spine. But that was two narrow for me to really feel like doing. Another idea was creating a file, which we might see in the typeset as well.

In the end, I didn't have cloth or paper in a colour I would've like, so a vegan leather notebook it became.

Also, I've found two spellings for the narrator. Everyone seems to be using Lyfrassir, and only on the band's bandcamp I've found Lifrassir. Decided to go with the Lyf spelling, but as we see… the cover had different ideas, which I only noticed after reaching the first or second s…

i feel like the knowledge that there are some medical databases with free-to-use 3D scans of various human organs available for 3D printing would have drastically reduced tumblrs amount of bone stealing scandals. plus you can make ones that glow in the dark.

unironically my favorite thing about tiktok is how the algorithm will sometimes assign you a random niche interest like for a while. it's just like hey you're gonna be into beef tallow now. last year it gave me pointe shoes. yes as in for ballerinas. my current tiktok-assigned niche interest is the north sea.

Look, if you've ever read a fantasy story and wished YOU could go to a magical land I want you to get on a ship and go far, far out to sea. Until land is so far away it might as well be a dream. Read one of those old fairy stories in your bunk- the dark, brilliant ones where if children aren't careful they can get tricked away to a strange and dangerous land.

And then go out and stand on the deck and look out at the world, the world of only water, the world you can only float on the surface of because all of the rest of it is death, death, all around you. The sea is everything, stretching to every horizon. It is so unlike everything you've known you might as well be on mars. It doesn't want you dead but it doesn't care if you die- and you're not made to survive it.

Despite that, if you stay too long the sight of land makes you sick. If you stay too long you're not fit for solid earth anymore. You don't have to dream of magical lands anymore; You're in one.

i can't stop thinking about this. this kind of shit is not like milsim plane nerds with their own super-expensive desktop cockpit recreations. that kind of hardware makes sense to exist.

this does not. they're playing world of tanks which is like the "call of duty" of tank games (casual, players only slightly bad-smelling). it also doesn't have support for tank peripherals. no game does. no trainers do afaik. which means that (assuming this isn't just a video editing) all of that shit they are fucking with translates into mouse/keyboard inputs that the game understands. that's weird/hard and perplexing, uh, and considering that "tank peripherals" aren't a thing that exist i can only guess they built them theirselves

which is fucking hilarious because why are they so good. why does the fucking cannon breech have a little dry ice smoke effect when the breech opens like they just shot a shell. what. manual turret traverse crank?? did they build a fucking ready rack!! they're even using the correct phraseology which means one of these mofos read a PDF file

Holy shit, they got Voyager 1 working again!

15 billion miles away and NASA was able to tweak code packages on one of the onboard computers and it worked and Voyager 1 is sending signals back to earth for the first time since November.
