I think another problem with the mindset of kudos/comments on AO3 is part of the “stalking” culture on instagram. If you like a picture that is months old on instagram, its “insta-stalking” because you had to scroll through that person’s profile in order to find those months-old pictures. That is NOT how AO3 works. It’s not cringe or embarrassing to find a fic that was posted in 2012 and like it. It is there to read.
Sure, maybe some of us have some old works that aren’t up to our current standards of writing. But I, personally, am never going to look at a kudos email and think “ew omg I can’t believe someone found this fic from 2016 why are they liking it”. In fact, I am entirely going to go “nice! people are still reading some of my older works too, I’m glad they enjoyed it”. It’s an archive, it is meant to be a collection of transformative works, old and new, and you are meant to find them.
In fact, if you find a work that is from five years ago and you really liked it? I bet the author would love a comment even then.
Stories are written to be read.
Show some appreciation.
i’m about 200% done with the whole ‘can delphine be trusted’ tomfoolery. you know what? i hope she can’t be. i hope that bitch is bad as hell. get it, girl.
depression meals™ and depression shows™ are a thing but what about depression video games™?
- The Sims Obsession. you think maybe 2 hours have passed. you look at the clock. it’s been 3 days
- wanting to play your favourite game but instead just listening to the music for 3 hours straight
- solitaire on your phone for 50 minutes while listening to sad music (or the video game music)
- starting up old favourite games and then exiting out of them once you see the menu
- spending two hours making a new character in an rpg and then realizing you can’t be bothered to actually play the game
- an amazing new video game, one that you’ve been waiting for for months. it takes you 3 days to finish a 40+ hour game because anything that makes you feel this good and distracted is immediately an obsession. once you finish the game you feel absolutely dead inside
Swan Queen: A modern fairy tail of two women co-parenting a son together. Both wanting to find self acceptance and a family to love and call their own.
Bering & Wells: A heart-broken woman from the past wakes up in a future world with a desire to destroy it. She doesn’t go through with her plan because she finds light and hope in the form of another woman; giving her a second chance at happiness.
Rizzles: Two women who are literally life partners.
Show Creators In The End: No but lady friendship and this random dude tho
Me:
Hey CW, can I just point out..
Steve Trevor is THE example. The guy was never not respectful, never condescending or doubting Diana in any way. Instead he leaned on her, allowed her to push him towards better. He treated her as an equal from the moment she “plucked him out of the sea”.
Just saying, you can do better, so do better.
@carmillaseries: Sunning and chilling between scenes 😎🔥
When you think about it, Supergirl was actually incredibly realistic this season.
M'Gann M'orzz: black woman, no institutional power, does hard grassroots work of organizing/resisting, unseen and uncredited until everyone needs her at the last minute
Mon El: white guy, literally all the power, says his people are bad and is Not Cool with their misogyny and slavery, doesn’t actually work to change them despite being in the perfect position to do so
See? The writers nailed it.
Part of the reason I’m so bitter about season 2 is that HE was not Mon-El. He was a random OC they slapped with his name for recognition points. The *real* Mon-El is actually a very well-written, supportive, selfless, and loving individual who is an actual hero. During the New Krypton arc, he took over for Superman while Kal was on New Krypton. CW!Mon-El has literally nothing in common with his comic book counterpart.
To say nothing of the fact that he and Kara have NEVER been love interests.
