Reblog to come play this stupid homemade board game we're all making.
the existence of tumblr tags as the sotto voce of internet communication is one of the most brilliant website features ever. and it’s funny because it’s accidental
the ability to comment and yet add nothing to the body of the post. the implication that whatever you’re saying is secondary to the post itself yet something visible and tangible in your particular reblog of it. like a commentary but not as self important. it’s literally like an introvert’s alternative to commenting on things. you are but you’re not. you won’t annoy op. it’s so lowkey no one even has to read it even if they follow u. perfection
Seeing more and more blogs without a [username].tumblr.com site which means you can only view their blogs in tumblr.com/[username] mode, and I realized just the other day that nowadays you have to manually go to your blog settings and toggle the “enable custom theme” switch to have a browser site activated.
I REALLY recommend activating this! Especially if you’re an artist or if you have a themed blog, like if you reblog fanart for a specific fandom or ship. First and foremostly you can change the whole theme if you want to, you can really just go wild with building your personal aesthetic for your page.
But what I think is even more important, is that you NEED to “enable custom theme” to enable access to your archive! The link [username].tumblr.com/archive doesn’t work if you don’t have this enabled!
If you post art or archive fanart or fandom content of any kind, letting people access your archive makes it so much easier for people (and yourself) to find older art on your blog or to look for something you drew a while ago that they remember loving and want to look at again.
We talk lots about how on Tumblr old art gets to circulate, and the archive is part of how that works. It’s a really useful tool in finding good content that isn’t brand new. And especially if you are good at tagging, it’s very easy to filter the archive to find ship content or meta or fics, whatever you want to find.
Hi! We're introducing Important Blue Internet Checkmarks here on Tumblr. They're a steal at $7.99—that's cheaper than some other places, when you consider that you get not one but TWO checkmarks for your blog on web only (for now). Why, you ask? Why not? Nothing matters! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
there is no tumblr algorithm except for the fact that if you put 5 hours of work into a post it will get 20 notes but if you put five minutes into a post with no tags that's completely nonsensical it'll get 10k.
An algorithm is just a rule that social media sites use to decide what shows up on a user's feed.
On Tumblr, it's a bit of a misnomer to say that there's no algorithm. There is one! Implemented by you! Every time you reblog something you cause it to show up on your followers' feed - you're the algorithm. It's you.
the real algorithm is the friends we made along the way
Felt like doing something picture book like.
me and my mutuals reblogging tumblr posts
I love how posts from deactivated blogs still exist and can be passed around, it’s like taking a dead man’s boots and we’re all sharing them
for $9.99 a month you get to see my 312 drafts i have saved over the past 10 years on this site
you are like a little baby. watch this
OK YOU WIN BUT AT WHAT COST
As much as I mildly despair about the functionality of Tumblr, I’m forever grateful we don’t have the creative interface of other social media platforms.
I keep seeing youtubers talking about how the new algorithm on their creative dash is so detrimental to their mental health, both in terms of how they feel about themselves as creators and the content they make—dreading to find out their performance rating, regardless of whether they enjoyed it or not. And it’s the same across multiple other platforms, TickTock, Facebook, Instagram. Fuck, I’ve even seen people with business accounts complaining on Twitter.
And then there’s Tumblr. Where sometimes you can’t find your own posts even though you know you tagged it, time stamps are hidden in the ellipses at the top right hand corner of the post, your bread recipe keeps getting flagged as porn, too much punctuation causes asks not to send, and checking your activity feed causes the app to crash. You want to know your trending numbers? You want to know what’s performing well? Fuck you, guess.
18k notes, and 99.999% of them are people finding out we have time stamps.
Tumblr is my favourite social media site because this place is literally uninhabitable for celebrities. No verification system, no algorithm that boosts their posts, it’s a completely lawless wasteland for them
Except Neil Gaiman.
Neil Gaiman goes on Tumblr to avoid writing and honestly, same.
