Spn Nostalgia - Day 5

Urban Legends

Roadkill from Season 2 is my favourite for many reasons:

The shift in point-of-view right at the beginning

The Sixth Sense-esque twist in the tale

The eerie, almost monochromatic look

Sam's patience and gentleness with Molly

Dean's uncharacteristic rudeness and derision which makes sense only on re-watch

The way it all comes together at the end - but with more questions than answers!

Also, one of my most favourite Sam quotes: 'Hope's kinda the whole point'!

Supernatural season 2 episode 16 is supernatural at its peak.

A spirit, molly, haunting Highway 41, not knowing she was dead and Sam was so compassionate throughout, helped her with passing through and that's so much like Sammy.

If you see only one episode of supernatural, please let it be roadkill.

Episodes like this, makes you love Sam Winchester even more. 🥺

Roadkill is literally such a good episode. Criminally underrated. I genuinely think it is one of the best “monster of the week” episodes. Everything about it is just. An example of Supernatural’s full potential (which was rarely ever fulfilled imo). And it’s not a wacky episode either (which I love ofc. It’s just a lot of my favorites/the popular episodes are those fun episodes, rather than more serious episodes).

The concept just fucks. Like it’s amazing. And there wasn’t rlly an example of that again?? The plot twist was SO GOOD.

And it was still early spn, so everything was very gritty and unknown, before they overexposed and devalued concepts that are better left to the audiences imagination imo (like what happens to ghosts after death).

Also, House Of The Rising Sun is one of my favorite songs, and I loved how it was used throughout the episode. Definitely one of the best song choices throughout the entire show. Using it *in* the episode, rather than as part of the soundtrack, by having it repeatedly play through the radio was an absolutely killer move. 10/10.

And beside the plot twist being just fucking awesome, the whole theme was just ??? definitely sooo good. On its own, it’s so interesting, with the whole “dead not realizing they’re dead” “letting go” “spirits aren’t bad people they’re just lost” shtick. But it’s even better when you rewatch after having seen the entirety of s2 (and also the rest of the show).

Anyway. Kind of rambling. I just think Roadkill is an amazing episode that deserves some appreciation 👍

WELCOME TO LADY OF THE WEEK HOSTED BY @spn-caps

Every week we will feature a lady chosen by a random name picker or a request.

This week’s featured lady is Molly McNamara. On February 22, 1992 Molly McNamara and her husband David McNamara were driving along Highway 41 in Nevada when they hit and killed Jonah Greely.

Molly died, but was unaware that she had died in the accident. Each year on the anniversary of her death, car accidents occurred on that highway caused by Jonah Greely chasing Molly into the road. When Sam and Dean met Molly, they did not tell her that she was dead, hoping she would help them find Jonah’s remains.

They found Greely’s cabin, but Jonah grabbed Molly and started to torture her. Greely was dispatched when Sam salted and burned his corpse.

Finally the boys revealed to Molly that her husband was alive and she was dead. At last she accepted this and her spirit disappeared with the sunrise after she decided to move on.

We tag our caps with #spn ladies if you don’t want to miss any of our posts and if you want to contribute with your own screencap edits we follow the tag #spncaps
