He’s wearing similar clothes to the Pilot - Dean had talked about how afraid he was to actually go to Sam that night, because he was so afraid Sam would reject him.

Sam showed up in Heaven in the same clothes, and looked at Dean, and nodded.

To face his fear, face Sam rejecting him. The best decision of his life. Because it’s how they became brothers again. ‘I love you so much’ and Sam doesn’t get to say it back. There’s not enough time or words and he’s choking on his tears ‘don’t leave me.’ He probably spends the rest of his life regretting not saying it back. Even if they’ve said i love you before in a million different ways without using the words. Dean doesn’t know that Sam feels EXACTLY the same way about that night in 2005. Dean in heaven choosing to wear the clothes he wore that night because that was the start of the best part of his life. And Sam arriving in heaven choosing to wear the clothes he wore that night—that’s Sam letting Dean KNOW. That’s Sam finally getting to say i love you too. I’m so happy you came to get me that night too. I was so scared you didn’t want anything to do with me too. This was the start of the best part of my life too. I love you so much. You’re my big brother.
