Bubbe's Ring
"What if Ace tries to propose but the ring is haunted?" popped into my head when I was working on my S1 AU, and seeing the Nace Week prompt for today gave me the inspiration to finish it. They don't quite make it to the wedding, but they can't get married if they never get engaged!
“Do you think she’ll like it?” Ace asked, holding out the ring for Bess to examine more closely. He had agonized over the decision at the jeweler’s earlier that week, considering each setting carefully before moving onto the next one, determined to find something that would fit both Nancy’s style and the stone his Bubbe had left to him. “She’ll love it,” Bess assured him. She had said as much when they were at the jeweler’s, but now that he had the ring in his hand, he was nervous all over again. “Have you decided how you’re going to ask her?” Nancy’s quest had settled down, and most of the Sin Eaters along the East Coast were preparing for long lives they had never expected to live. He still had a few years of school ahead of him, but having Nancy back full-time meant the timing felt right, and they had started talking about getting engaged weeks ago. Knowing she would say yes didn’t make him any less nervous.
